Maker's Mark Sues Jose Cuervo.
Maker’s Mark Distillery has filed a federal lawsuit accusing some competitors of a trademark infringement by allegedly copying the Kentucky bourbon maker’s famous red wax seal.
The suit filed this week in Louisville names the maker of the high-end tequila Jose Cuervo Reserva de la Familia as a defendant, along with Diageo North America Inc., which distributes the tequila in the United States.
Maker’s Mark claims the red wax coating on the tequila has spurred purchases by some people who mistakenly think the product is connected with Maker’s Mark.
Here's a link, look at both bottles, what do ya think?

I guess I better get the red wax candles out of my bedroom. If one drips on the wrong spot, Maker's Mark might think that too looks too much like their bottle. :p
Re: Maker's Mark Sues Jose Cuervo.
Well, the Jose Cuervo is a deeper red, more of a crimson, than the Maker's, and it has that stamp on the side of it, and it doesn't look hand-dipped, like the Maker's is. I have a hard time believing that there are a lot of people running out and buying Jose Cuervo because they think it's associated with Maker's Mark. And do the makers of Maker's Mark make tequila? If not, how much business are they losing, anyway? Seems like they're trying to say they should be the only ones allowed to put a red wax seal on their bottles, and I don't think that's right, or else Jack Daniel's could sue Southern Comfort for putting a black label on their bottles.

That is why I drink either Woodford or Old Forester.

I think it's a silly lawsuit...maybe Makers Mark needed a boost in sales?:p
