Lake of the Ozarks
Can anyone give me any advice on how to fish the lake of the ozarks this time of year? I'm fishing as a co-angler to a new body of water with only one day to pre-fish. I hate to ask for advice but I'm a newly wed and don't want to give her a reason to tell me to stop fishing like the last one did. Can anyone believe this woman was chasing me when she was 13 years old and I wouldn't give her the time of day? Well 27 years later we were married in Jamicia and so far she supports my fishing. Guess what? She even fished with me on out honeymoon!!!!!!!

Re: Lake of the Ozarks
I've only fished it once, but know a guy that spends a lot of time there and he has been catching them suspended a couple feet below the surface around docks. Don't know what he has been throwing, but I'd consider a Senko out of the back of the boat if you are around one of the 100,000 docks around the lake.

From what I've heard it's a pretty safe bet you'll be fishing docks. Take plent of swim jigs.

Re: Lake of the Ozarks
I agree with Skeeter. I have fished the lake several times in the last couple years. We used the KVD swim jigs and also shakey heads with a lot of luck. You will catch a lot of keepers that way but the bigger fish in the tournaments seem to come from deeper water along some of the secondary points. We caught several 5+ with a carolina rig and lizard in 25'-30' of water. Good luck.

Re: Lake of the Ozarks
I am going to be down there next weekend and prefishing this weekend for a tournament as well and have just been told basically what they are saying... Don't stay in one spot move and hit as many docks as possible... Throw top water in the morning and find docks that have something different than the majority of them to find the fish... The main thing is eliminate what type of dock and location isn't producing the large bite and change stuff around because supposedly you should be able to go down there and catch a lot of 3-5lb fish... When is your tournament?

Re: Lake of the Ozarks
The tournament is Oct. 1-3, the top ten fish day three, I'm hoping for 11th place so I don't get in the mess, the 1200+ boat tounament going on sat. and sun. plus the 10 boats in our little tourny. Plus think about the pre-fishermen for this week, 200 boats in ours plus the 1200 in the big bass tournament for $50,000 for the one big fish. I'm taking a camera because it's going to be a zoo. Ya know I love to tournament fish but I'm scared about next week. The wife told me if I'm going to drive 8 hours I should take my boat in case I don't make the cut and try to get into the other tournamet. So if anyone is fishing that one could you send me info on how, when and where to register. Thanks and good luck to all.

Re: Lake of the Ozarks
My older sister and brother-in-law live right next to Osage beach. He fishes the lake like 3-5 times a week. He said that the local tournaments out of Gravois Creek have been taking the most weight to win. There are a few humps located in that creek that are phenominal during the summer-fall transition. I Went pre-fishing with him last year for the Ozark BFL regional and we absolutley sacked em. Im talking 15 3-5 pounders a piece. We also had good luck on some of the main lake drops from 25-45 foot. The weapon of choice was a Berkley power mullet and a carolina rigged strike-king Iguana. If your out for numbers dont try this as it takes patience to find the "sweet spots" on these places. If you catch 2-3 fish all day, it will outweigh 5 15 inchers.

Re: Lake of the Ozarks
Gotta luv the mullet!!! I hope I have the chance to use it, but I'll will most likely be flipping docks behind someone. So what is the bottom like? Is it rocky with timber, shell and rock or mud? Can you drag a mullet?

Re: Lake of the Ozarks
Depends on where you are on the lake...Just look at the bank to dictate what the bottom is like......STROKIN that mullet will get your arm broke down there...A bubblegum buzzbait works like a charm also.....Even a bubblegum rattlin wing-ding made by stan sloan is a killer..
