What do you mean by "we"? I'm not celebrating it.
Furthermore, this doesn't have anything to do with the government of this country or the government of NYC. This is a private entity (the building's managers) who have decided to do this.
I'm not in favor of it and think it's a bad idea, but I respect their right to do it and don't think it's worth getting upset over.
