KY lake. Most tournaments are won there. Go South!!
Gotta figure June is ledge bite time and there are more ledges on KY than Barkley, at least that is my opinion but I am not a ledge master by all means. I do know that it has been posted here many times that there are certain ledges on North Barkley that will give up 100 fish days, especially outside the major marinas where tourneys are going out of all the time. Never had one of those days but I would say read Dave's report, and prefish one day south Ky, one day North Ky and then maybe if nothing of worth running the gas for, a couple of days on Barkley especially if you have nothing patterned on Ky, save the gas and stay close and get more fishing time in. Not to mention the wind could play a part in your run to and or from your spot on south KY. Could be a long bumpy dangerous ride in 4 footers if the wind is out of the NNW or SSE back to Barkley. Just my opinion
Simple answer is which one is generating water?
Barkley has tournaments every weekend and also week day tournaments, I have seen a bunch of weighins and usually it takes 17+ to get close in every tournament so, a 20 lb sack is available if you spend time on the water and dedicate yourself to Barkley. There is Miles and Miles of Ledges as well, more "humps" I feel than KY.
Kentucky "South", I fish primarily from the Moores area to Paris week in and week out, I have had 2 - 7lbdrs north of the 68 bridge and 2 - 7lbdrs South, this year. there are fish all over you have to spend time on the water and determine your best spot. Either Lake will do you right as far as I'm concerned - it all depends on your style and as Elwood said wind - wind - wind
Appreciate the info! Sure will keep em in mind!
Was at KY lake last year for 3 days team tournament. Placed 9th out of 63 boats. Each days on KY water. They're having other tournament next year at Barkley so that's why I don't know if I should drive all the way to KY's or stay in Barkley that's if Barkley holds better quality fish than KY's.
Individually your probably looking at #1 and #1a best Bass lakes in Kentucky so you probably can't go wrong with either. I fish it mainly in the spring and have had 100 fish days with 25 keepers on both lakes. I fish North Barkley, North KY and South Ky down to Ginger Bay area. Never fished anymore south than that and when I did fish the summer I fished north Ky for Smallies at night but did a lot of ledge fishing the last few hours before the sun went down and the first few hours of sunup on North Ky and know there are a bunch of ledges that hold quality fish north of the 68/80 bridge. Ledge fishing is a timing and current deal as we all know, 2 different river systems so there may be more rain in Alabama so Ky may be pulling more or more rain in south Ky/North Tn and Barkley may be pulling more current so really a tough question to answer this far away and probably could not be answered to narrow it down any better until a few days before the tourney based on forecast and weather as to projecting who will be pulling any current. Good Luck
