Alarm sounding in 96' Nitro

OK...after getting to the boat ramp on Friday night my engine ran fine for all of 15 seconds before it shut off and went without for the next two hours until I parked it and got a hotel room for the evening. After getting the oil sending unit corrected from sending oil at full throddle into the gas mixture, I head out onto the lake. Sat ran all day fine, Sunday was running and hit some wakes behind a boat running in front of mine and an alarm started to sound. VERY quick non-stop chirps from the console like an alarm for the engine. It never stopped all day Sunday while I was running the boat. What alarms sound like this? My gas gauge stopped working as well. Does that boat have a fuel alarm based upon the guage reading? I know I had a full tank, and gauge went to below empty. Loose wire? Bound up float? Any ideas before I drag my boat to a mechanic?

Check the connections on the back of the gauge panel first, then troubleshoot your way back to the motor. The sending unit may be bad, but I don't know of any alarm that would sound because of low fuel. Sounds like you have something else going on. What horsepower, model, and make?:confused:

It a MERC 200 EFI. I think it's a low oil issue. Understanding that a mechanic worked on the oil sending unit the day before leads me to believe it's warning me that the resevior is running low. I called and spoke to a mechanic and he gave me direction as to what it might be.

I agree....unfortunetly the same thing happened with my dad's 250 ProXS. The oil was not out, but got air in the line after hitting some wakes.

So how do you bleed the lines?

Not sure...a mechanic did my dads...seems it was pretty simple though because it only took him like 5 min.

You might check the oil tank on the motor. I had a 225 and it had to be filled to the top before it would use the "main" oil tank again.

Thanks Barry. Sounds as if I need to make a trip to Guist or Taylorsville to run the motor so I can bleed my lines. I need to take the cap off of my engine and run the oil to the top of the saddle tank.
