A Little F-n-F on the Creek
I spent most of the day cutting and splitting firewood down on the farm. I always have one of my 7.5 F-n-F rods rigged in the truck with the Chainsaw and the rest of the tools...The creek was up running pretty hard. Lots of leaves moving....I fished on and off for the better part of the day between loads....
Didn't get any hookups, but did get some gill bites...oh well....

I thought Fishin Is Life and I were going to be the first ones to try the FnF this year when we hit Cumberland this weekend. Guess you beat us to it!

Question, what kind of water temperatures are you seeing in the creeks. Last week, I found water at 64 deg a few miles upstream of Burnside on the Cumberland River and around 67 deg on the east end of the lake.

Billy called me last week and he had already caught a couple on the fly then out of Elkhorn, which runs next to his house. He may have the first in October 2009, but my bet is I still have the first of 2009, 7:15am January 1, 2009, 5-1 Smallmouth Dale Hollow Lake and just to prove that was no fluke 7:20am January 1, 2009, 4-15 Smallmouth Dale Hollow Lake. Sun came up around 7:10am so unless anyone was night fishing, my bet is I had the first Smallmouth of 2009, certainly the first 5 pounder and first 10lb sack. Have not heard anyone that caught one any sooner. But don't ask me, ask Catchemall, he was in the boat with me and netted both fish because per bassfisherman99 or is it BEVO, I could be posting untruths.

That would be tough to beat. My first of 2009 was on January 3.
I guess I actually meant this winter season and not really the calendar year of 2009.

Re: A Little F-n-F on the Creek
ELWOOD, I have learned what I know by listening to the elders and learning from others mistakes. So I think I have a pretty good outlook on life.
We can only control the things that are put before us to manipulate. What others do or say, can not be controled. Don't put effort into the things that you can not control. Don't put forth anger which is wasted energy that could be used for perfecting that perfectly loaded F`N`F cast. You have WAY more important things to relax on and contemplate than letting this guy get in your crawl.
The comfort of a friend is way more important than the lies of the opposite.
GRASSHOPPER to ELWOODSON :) Sorry....wrong thread....still saying the same thing though.

Water temps still low 60's. Smallmouth are looking up to feed, trust me.
Re: A Little F-n-F on the Creek
I can confirm the first fish, the second fish, and the first 10pound sack mentioned above. I was the lucky one to net both but I am gunning for the first in 2010.

This must mean, "when the Ball Drops in NYC, the Bobbers Fly in DH". Will you be on station new years eve? :D
Re: A Little F-n-F on the Creek
I'm walking the bank, so I really don't check water temps...I just go with the flow..LOL!!!!
But if I had to guess I'd have to say high 50's. I heard that was what Stoners temp was on Thurs. Frymans pool is about the same as the pool I live on in width...Depth...mine averages about 2-3ft shallower....which will cool and heat more quickly. I plan to do a lot of bank fishing down there this winter. I've got a few more spots I need to clear off...But we'll see....
