Re: Lex welder recommendation
I'd post this in the boat forum but that board appears not to be state specific.
Looking for a recommendation on a Lexington area welder who does dependable work on aluminum. 12 year old Tracker, 14', no leaks, but a couple of cracks on the welds at the transom corners due to years of use. Thought I would get them reinforced as I strip the boat for winter storage. Thanks in advance!
Re: Lex welder recommendation
Did you call Stokleys Marine?
Re: Lex welder recommendation
My experience has been that marine shops tend to charge a bit more. I figure its a pretty straightforward matter that doesn't require boat expertise and someone with decent welding skills can handle. I just don't happen to weld.
Re: Lex welder recommendation
Make sure whoever works on it removes the foam insulation behind the weld area if needed.
Re: Lex welder recommendation
There is a place here in Northern Ky (Bellevue) that does excellent work. They were recommended to me by another forum member. There was some sort of family connection. I needed the bow of my '84 Tracker welded and the previous quote I got was "somewhere between $300 and $500". That's more than the taxable value of the boat! Anyway, this guy did a beautiful job and charged me way less than I thought it would be. It may be well worth the hour's drive to get the work done properly and at a reasonable price.
