Stoner Creekheads need some advice.....
All you creekheads out there, making my FIRST trip to Stoner on Monday with Redneckshadrap (don't hold that one against me), and looking for advice. I will tell you my initial game plan and need some constructive criticism and other tips on what to take and what to do.
Taking 2 G Loomis/Curado combos with 10lb flourocarbon
Taking 2 Spinning reels with 6lb flourocarbon
Taking 3 FNF rods but will only use 2 most likely, G Loomis stays in the box
Baitcasters with a small jig, 3/8oz or 1/4 oz, on one and 1/4 oz Scrounger with Fluke Jr as a trailer.
Spinning reels with small jig on one and shaky head on another.
FNF rods with leader lengths of WHO KNOWS, I guess one set about 6 feet and the other around 4 feet. Plan on using the Duck Feather with blue and Chartr jig to start, Duck Feather Red and Chart on the other.
Need some tips on the above set up, changes, suggestions, jig colors, shaky head colors and other stuff. With about 200lbs of tackle in the garage and boat, surely I have what I need to fish the creek.
Thanks in advance

I cant give ya any help on the fnf, gonna be giving it a try for the first time on the creek myself in a couple weeks. It sounds like you pretty much have it covered. I haven't fished the Fryman's section in awhile, But If your fishing on the Ike's stretch I would suggest taking some finesse worms, work on the suspended brush in the deeper water. Otherwise you sound like you're in good shape! Let us know how you did!
Re: Stoner Creekheads need some advice.....
I haven't been to fryman's since summer, but if it's anything like the rest of stoner...can't go wrong with a small blue/black jig. Probably wanna beef up line a bit too...lotsa wood out there for them old girls to get you tied up in. :)
I've also had some luck recently on a slow rolling spinnerbait.
Water temps were around 49 degrees last week at Ike's, I don't think fryman's will be much different.
I hope you guys slay them.
Best of Luck !!
Re: Stoner Creekheads need some advice.....
Was up there today....and water temp was 49 there also..it still has some water color..with the rain coming in I expect it will still have some fair color when you guys get there next week...didn't do any bass fishing today but in the last couple weeks I have been catching a decent number of bass each time I have fished for them on a 2 or 3 inch tube rigged on a jig head...not sure about size jig head...maybe 3/16 oz....I doubt tube color matters much but I have been throwing mostly dark colors with the speckles....spent today croppie fishing...caught 17 or 18 croppie , all but 2 came on the float and fly rig...only difference is the jig....was fishing a tiny tube on a 1/16 oz head....even caught a couple short bass on the little jig.
Re: Stoner Creekheads need some advice.....
Stoner FNF Tip #643: Don't be afraid to ditch the bobber and deadline the fly. Trust me, if that's working, Billy will force you to do it by laying about 20 on you in an hour from the back of the boat while you're up front jiggling your floatie. I'm not as good at the deadline trick as he is, but sometimes they want it that way down there. Others, it's all bobber. Also, I like a little chartreuse...
You boys whack em Monday.
Re: Stoner Creekheads need some advice.....
Dave Stewart rule of fishing #1,456,879,456,785,343,566 says IF THE GUY IN THE BOAT IS CATCHING FISH THEN YOU TIE ON THE SAME EXACT BAIT HE IS THROWING YOU WATCH HOW HE IS WORKING THE BAIT AND YOU WORK THE BAIT THE EXACT SAME WAY. IF HE CONTINUES TO CATCH FISH AND YOU DON'T, THEN THROW YOUR BUDDY OUT OF THE BOAT AND CAST TO THE SPOTS HE WAS CASTING AND CATCH THE FISH HE WAS CATCHING!!!!
Billy may end up wet if he catches 20 out of the back to my ZERO!!
Re: Stoner Creekheads need some advice.....
Stick with the 1/4oz jig paca trailer, black n blue or dirty sanchez. 200 series Bandit crankbait in root beer.

10lb Flourocarbon on my baitcasters OK for both of these or do I need to go to smaller diameter line?

Just my opinion but I like something a little heavier for the jig. The 10 is fine for the crankbait. You dont even need floro for the creek (I use it myself for the jig) but the creek is not that clear.
Good luck, wish I could join ya!!
Re: Stoner Creekheads need some advice.....
That all sounds good. Is the friday 27th still on?
Re: Stoner Creekheads need some advice.....
Still on as far as I know. Billy is getting a list of those that are coming but I know I will be there with my boat and Billy in tow. I might need Friday for a little payback after the behind-kicking I take on Monday. Either way, will be just good to get out on the water again.
Re: Stoner Creekheads need some advice.....
49 degrees with color, hopefully some current on the wall.....I'd better add a few more white/chart to the box...I'll definitely have one rod with fly only...
