Re: Sugar Bay Kentucky Lake
You should be ok launching your boat in Sugar Bay. I have launched my 18' glass boat at winter pool without much trouble. The ramp is a little shallow at winter pool but it is still usable. Plus the lake level today is a foot above WP so that helps too. The worst part about Sugar bay's ramp is getting all of the dust in your boat going back the road. As far as other ramps you have Smith Bay to the north and Fenton / Kenlake to the south. All are usable at WP but Fenton is really shallow with the lake low which can be a little tough if you are launching alone...

Re: Sugar Bay Kentucky Lake
My boat is all aluminum so the dust is just a simple garden hose clean out...Good fishing around Sugar Bay in winter? It is my favorite place in late summer.
Re: Sugar Bay Kentucky Lake
With the rain we are getting here today and tonight you won't have to worry about dust anymore...and yes Sugar is good in the winter...wind warnings up today and tomorrow by the way.
Re: Sugar Bay Kentucky Lake
Please heed the warnings Dave speaks about. The wind is not something you would want to battle in an aluminum boat in the winter. Please take all neccesary precautions. Let someone know where you'll be, and when you'll be back. Wear your life vest. Have fun and fish on!
Re: Sugar Bay Kentucky Lake
Not only that, but if you end up in the water this time of year...........and the WIND......you're in trouble.
Re: Sugar Bay Kentucky Lake
Add Saturday to that wind advisory now also.
Re: Sugar Bay Kentucky Lake
Wont be going till next week hopefully that will be a good time to pick a warm day not sure what to fish with but I will fish...more than likely throw a jig and pork...may even throw some 5inch grubs split tail...they seem to be killer this time of year for a bite. Just have not fished Kentucky much since I moved here. I plan on trying to see Dave next year for the seminar he does out of his house. Dave you are more than welcome to fish in my boat for free.
Re: Sugar Bay Kentucky Lake
Try a suspending jerkbait, jig, curly tail grub...you should catch some fish if all the reports I have been getting are on.
Re: Sugar Bay Kentucky Lake
Dave is right, jerkbaits have been working for us.
