Help With Patoka in Spring
Hey guys I think I talked my dad into heading to Patoka this spring. What Id like to know is what is the best time normally in the spring there? Also I dont need any secret spots or anything just a starting point on what I can expect there. We have never fished Patoka before so any info is much appreciated. You can pm me if you dont want to post any info. Thanks in advance guys.
Re: Help With Patoka in Spring
Depending on weather, of course, Patoka usually hits about 63 F in late April or early May, and then the spawn is on. You can catch the bass spawning just about anywhere you have shallow flats 0'-10' deep. Before and after the spawn, I would hit the weedbeds or secondary lake points, ledges, and creek channels.
Re: Help With Patoka in Spring
For Panfish I have always had my best luck in the river channel feeding the lake. I have also caught nice fish off the bank near the modern campground.
For bass almost every cove has a mud bottom and grass.
And don't pass up the islands for early top water fun.
Re: Help With Patoka in Spring
Has anyone chased after the white bass at Patoka in the spring. If so do they head up the river or do the stay in the main lake.
Re: Help With Patoka in Spring
I have rarely targeted White Bass, but I have caught my share of them. In the Spring, I have caught them trolling deep cranks around the entrance to Fleming Creek, and all around the main lake, usually right over a bend in the main river channel.

i caught a 16inch and a 18 inch at the same time...thought i really had somethin
Re: Help With Patoka in Spring
I love it when I'm trolling around the main lake and I spot a school of White Bass busting on shad. Stop the boat and throw every thing you have at them. Guaranteed hookups.
Re: Help With Patoka in Spring
Usually get started on the crappies near Kings bridge by late February. Don't overlook shallow real early. Seem to do best with a jig under a bobber from 15"s to 3' and I like to tip the jigs with crappie nibbles.
