April 3rd-10 Kentucky or Barkley
I normally turkey hunt in TN during my spring break but my budget does not allow me to lease land to hunt on. I lost my land in TN to hunt on because it has been leased out. I am thinking of fishing Barkley or Kentucky lake instead. I have an 18ft aluminum boat 90hp Etec. What can one expect on average for fishing this time of year on these lakes? I am from Kentucky just do not know the lake that well...crappie or bass I would be interested in some advice, baits, what water to fish, times to fish etc. Catching fish is good...they all do not have to be lunkers!

In my opinion, that would be a perfect time. look for the yellow flowers in any of the bays. Ky or Barkely. If they are not in there, back up some towards main lake. They should be coming and going. Or book a trip with Dave Stewart and he will put you right on them.

Well, I only fish for bass and am not a Crappie expert but that timeframe is normally pretty good for the Crappie on late prespawn and spawn patterns for the White Crappie. All depends on water and weather conditions of course...they are some finicky fish sometimes. You can expect the Largemouth to be in transition in the creeks and bays and working secondary points and banks at that time with crankbaits, spinnerbaits, Texas rigs, jigs are a good bet. Smallmouth should be locked on the beds about that time. If I were going to fish Crappie and not knowing the lake, I would probably recommend Jonathan Creek or Blood River to you. These are noted Crappie creeks and plenty of cover there for you to play on.
