Motor losing prime need help
I have a 96 evinrude 175hp, I have changed the priming bulb. When I launch and initially prime the fuel, it will run as long as I want too. Then stop and fish for say 30 - 45 min. maybe not even that long. When I try to take off again I have lost all prime, is that normal. I didn't know if it should be the fuel line or carbs. I don't see any fuel leaking anywhere
Re: Motor losing prime need help
your carbs should still have fuel in the bowls when you stop, no matter how long you sit there. if youre losing prime in the line, you might have a pinhole in it somewhere,or your pump is starting to fade sounds like
Re: Motor losing prime need help
I'll change the whole line then, makes sense. It will start up and idle fine, then when I get on it, it acts like it is running out of gas. Then when I stop re-prime it's fine until I stop again
Re: Motor losing prime need help
sounds like a pump issue maybe
Re: Motor losing prime need help
just a pin hole in the supply lines could allow it to happen. fuel pump runs on vaccum from engine, higher the rpm, more vacuum and, more gas it pumps and vice versa, i'm planning to change the pump on my 82 Johnson, it looses prime when running down the lake. They are fairly inexpensive.
Re: Motor losing prime need help
mine would run all day, as long as I keep the motor running. When I stop to fish for 45 minutes or longer, I have to reprime. I'll check for a pinhole. could be around the hose clamps
Re: Motor losing prime need help
If you pump, start, run a very short time, and restart does it still do it?
If you run it for a while and then restart it immediately does it do it.
Wondering if time in off position matters?
Re: Motor losing prime need help
If I stop for 15 minutes or so. It will run fine. Its extended stops that causes it to lose prime

Sounds fairly normal to me. If thats the extent of your problems feel blessed
