The Crumbling of America on History Channel is talking about Wolf Creek DAM
Man........talk about SCARY Scenerios.
They talk about how much rain is needed to cause a breach in the dam. it is NOT MUCH.
* A heavy rain front hits the area.
* A sinkhole or multiple sinkholes forms on the grassy face.
* They work their way towards the top of the dam.
* The roadway gives way.
* The dam starts to breech at the top..........creating a 600ft wide by 200ft deep gap.
* Debris swept in the RUSHING water forms ballistic battering rams.
* THE water travels 280 river miles to NASHVILLE.......Music City is underwater.
* Music City USA is 20 ft underwater........Titan Stadium is the new SEA WORLD.
* 25 MILLION people in California are cut off from water.......I don't understand that one.
BUT ****.......that crap is SCARY.

That show was frightening - 12% of gross national product spent on infra-structure when Ike was POTUS - 2% now!
The California levies - it seems that the COE did not track how many miles of levies there are until Katrina raised the awareness.
If you want to get really scared look at the underside of 10 bridges!

There is a bridge in TN that crosses the lake that is so bad. That they have placed nets underneath to catch the falling concrete to protect the boaters that could be underneath. They are trying to get the money to fix it !!! :(

I guess we're learning as a nation its easier to build it then maintain it. I agree with ya all. I do wish our govt would spend more money fixing what we have and less on new projects like the new Ohio River bridge, or the new stadium downtown. Its kinda like we want to hide the ugliness of the crumbling infrastructure by diverting attention to our new shiny toys.
I wish we would hire more cops, more census takers, more fireman, more road crews, and just build less new stuff. Who are we trying to keep up with......Mexico?

I agree with you for the most part, except when it comes to the new bridge. A "new" bridge should have been built a long time ago. I drive across the 2nd street bridge everyday travelling to and from work...I live in Louisville so when I'm leaving Louisville everyone else is coming into Louisville...but I see the snarled traffic conditions on both bridges, luckly for me since I'm "going" when everyone else is "coming" it doesn't effect me that much most of the time.
I guess in all seriousness when things are all said and done it really doesn't matter to me about any new bridges cause by the time a new one is open I'll be retired or dead, one of the two.
