Shakey Head setup
Its the last thing I really wanna talk about, but I reckon I'll have to have a shakey head as a non-boaer (or so Im told). What kind of jigs do I need? Arent plain lead ball head jigs fine? 3/16 and 1/8 oz?
What about worms?
Dont overwhelm me guys, I'll probably never throw it anyway.

Im fishing BFL as a non-boater this year, almost everyone tells me I better have a shakey head on one rod if I want to do well. Ive thrown em a couple times but it isnt my style at all.

Re: Shakey Head setup
something different from the ball head is the Spot Remover, when cast out and "Shaked" back it will stand on it's nose I've caught a lot of fish on it, I don't like thee way the bait fits of the head, BUT I have still cough alto fish on it, I think why people are telling you that you need a Shekey Head setup is if the boater is power fishing you will need to do something different, and Shakey is the way I would go

Is this the jig that looks like an upside down tea cup? Flat on the bottom with a spring to hold the bait?
Do some of you guys put craws instead of worms on a shakey head?

Re: Shakey Head setup
Can't go wrong with this setup:
Straight tail worms (approximately 4-7 inches depending on fish mood)
1/16 - 1/4 oz jigheads (I like 1/8 and 3/16 mostly)
2500 series/size spinning reel (Shimano Sustain 2500FE)
6'8" - 7' Medium power, Extra Fast Action spinning rod (Shimano Cumara)
6-10lb fluorocarbon line (BPS XPS Fluoro)
You can also throw a shakey head on baitcasting equipment, but the right rod and line is essential. I started out throwing it on baitcasting equip, but transitioned to spinning. Personally, I prefer the spinning outfit.
In my opinion, the shakey head is a great presentation for catching fish when you're in a pinch and need to put fish in the boat. I'm sure plenty of guys on here would say it is their "go-to" application. Hope this helps.:D

Re: Shakey Head setup
Ony advice I could is for Barren: carolina rig and if your partner is already doing that might try a ten inch power worm.... Have heard of DD22's working that time year.

Re: Shakey Head setup
the Spot Remover is flat on the nose, when you go in the bait store ask for it they should have it it's popular, and yes guys fish craws on Shakey Heads, and Barren is were I have caught some of the bigger fish on it, if what you like tof fish is working great, but when it's not Shakey has been good for me to go too JMO

Net bait finness worms are the best worms for this I have used. I like green pumpkin candy. Plus Mega Strike makes a Shake2 jig head you should look up. I have caught plenty of fish on it, no giants but have caught plenty of keepers...Its my second favorite thing to throw... I have two rods set up with different weights and worms, I always throw 8lb. test though. Good luck.
