Rod question - I searched
I am wanting to replace/upgrade the rod that I have an Ambassadeur round body reel on (maybe a 3300-3500 it is a burgundy color for what it's worth). I use it for most all my bass fishing. (I am not a real big bass fisherman but when the crappie don't co-operate I fish for bass.) I am really liking fishing jigs here lately. The rod I have it on now is very stiff (heavy action) 7 foot set up with hardly any flex or load up of the bait. This rod was originally boguth with catfishing in mind. I am finding it very difficult to actually cast the jigs. I basically have to sling them. My casting is fairly inaccurate as a result.
What should I be looking for in jig rod? I will use it primarily as a jig rod but may throw a large spinnerbait at night or carolina or texas rig with it and maybe throw a jerk bait. Is there a rod to fit with my reel that will fit most of these needs? Any brands or models to suggest? Trying to keep it under $100 if I can.
Re: Rod question - I searched
I would go with a 7 foot med heavy Shimano Clarus. They have plenty of tip so they do not put too much pressure when you pick up on a fish but enough backbone to drive the hook home. They cost about $80 and have a lifetime warranty. For the money they are the best rod you can buy for under a hundred dollars.

Smashdn, Where do you live?
I'll make you a deal.. You make a donation to Saint Jude and I will give you a good Jig Rod.
I think I still have an Allstar or a Quest rod that will fit your needs.
Doesn't matter how much just send me proof and I'll make sure you get a rod.
I am in Lexington and travel to Richmond/Winchester/ MT Seterling area a lot. I will deliver it, meet you somewhere or mail it to you if I need.
Re: Rod question - I searched
Live in Franklin, Ky, small town south of Bowling Green. I live right on the Tennessee line.
I really appreciate the offer. PM what you had in mind and some contact info.
Still gonna head to Bass Pro after work to see about maybe getting a combo then to fill another niche. Any suggestions on what would be my next set-up to get? Maybe a cranking set up?
Re: Rod question - I searched
I appreciate the PM's about Saint Jude, But I got to tell you fella's that it was not my idea, but REDSKEETER'S idea.. Take a look at the Community tacklebox at the "CHEAP" trolling motor and you will see what I mean..
I'm just fulfilling a promise for a great cause!!!
