Re: Back from KY Lake....
got back yesterday. we were mostly crappie fishing but did bass fish a few hours sun. and did real well. just like you they werent very big but plentiful. we did catch one keeper. i was a little surprised because they seemed to be about the same size as what i caught a lot of last year. i thought maybe those fish would have grown and this year we would be on a little bigger bite..... if that makes any sense. talked to some guys sun. that had a couple over 4lbs so i guess they are starting to move. we saw one pretty good size bass in the back of a cove in a about a foot of water. dont think it was on a bed but it looked like it was gettin ready. the crappie for us were scattered but BIG. caught my personal best. didnt weigh it but it was huge. we caught both black and white crappie casting curly tails to the banks. one here one there. weather was beautiful, not much wind. you could fish any where you wanted, we just couldnt find the numbers. stayed at hillman ferry again. love that place. hope this helps some one. pm me if you have any more ?????? i'll try to help.
Re: Back from KY Lake....
Good to hear these reports. A friend of mine sent a picture to me of a 7lb smallie he whacked on Barkley yesterday. No joke, this smallmouth is a legit 7 lbs:eek:. Supposedly, the brown fish are on fire right now on both sides. He did say he is catching a large amount of male largemouth too, but none to brag about.
I'll be venturing out that way in a few weeks -- I can't wait.
Re: Back from KY Lake....
LM fishing for bigger fish is definitely on the upswing. Saw a lot of bigger fish moving in over the past few days. Guess my prediction in my last week's report was right on. Had a grandfather and his 7 year old grandson out on Saturday and they had 2 limits of keeper sized up to 4 lbs. Was doing a tourney prep yesterday and we covered 50 miles of running and gunning...and still had a limit and I broke off a hog on one spot where they were eating good.

Re: Back from KY Lake....
Guy I know was down there last week and they tore the bass up. Crappie was slow because of the wind. They managed two LM around 7 pounds. Said they caught 3 smallmouths.
Re: Back from KY Lake....
I would like to know which bay u saw that biggun. I am camping in Smith Bay as I type and am getting ready to start a 4 day haul-a-thon from here. Anyone wanting to fish some come see me. I'll be in a white and red nitro fish n ski. I'll be the one with that glazed over look in my eye.
Re: Back from KY Lake....
Got back Sunday from KY Lake but we were crappie fishing. The fish were scattered and seemed to be in the 10-15 foot range. Caught a lot of 9" fish but when we caught a keeper it was a good one. Also caught one keeper bass on a minnow and two nice channel cats. The weather and the TVA jacking with the water levels really put the hurt on it but Sunday, before we left, the fishing was starting to pick back up.
Re: Back from KY Lake....
Fished Thursday-Sunday and caught close to 400 fish. We only bass fished for 2 days and our best five went about 12 lbs each day. For the trip we had 9 smallmouth with one over 4 lbs. 46 keeper crappie. 6 redear over 1 lbs. 7 catfish on crappie jigs. The best pattern for bass was on main lake points, secondary points and channel banks between the two. All crappie were caught on 2 spots in 7 feet of water with minnows and roadrunners. Redear and catfish were caught on pink roadrunners. Was a GREAT trip!
