Kentucky lake--this weekend
I WILL BE AT KY LAKE FROM TOMORROW THRU SUN. HAVE RESV. AT MOORS SO CANT CANCEL--PLAN WAS TO FISH FOR CRAPPIE AND BASS KNOWING BOTH WILL BE SPAWNING...BUT STORMS PREDICTED ALL WEEKEND WITH 20-30 MPH WINDS AT TIMES--WANTING ADVICE AS TO HOW YOU ALL WOULD FISH AND WHAT TO EXPECT FROM FROM THE FISH. WILL THEY BACK OFF THE BANKS OR BEING AT PEAK SPAWN TIME STAY ON THE BEDS.
Re: Kentucky lake--this weekend
I would say with this front, fish shallow out of the wind with deeper water close by. Most fish will go on the bed after the next full moon (28th). This front should get the big ones roudy! Good luck!
Re: Kentucky lake--this weekend
Thanx..i am going to catch something one way or the other--lol
Re: Kentucky lake--this weekend
I think I would just stay in Big Bear all weekend. Plenty of fish in there, and protected for the most part.
Crappie should be done already - with the majority of the population being black crappie now, they spawn in March. For freezer fish, I'd be looking for the catfish to start moving up on rip rap banks real soon for their spawn...might be a shade early for that though. Used to start hitting them around the first week in May. Jugging and limb lines should be productive now.
Re: Kentucky lake--this weekend
Stay in Big Bear if the water is rough for sure. With wind forecasts like that it may get dangerous. We've had luck in the past around this time of year crankin the rip rap that's in those creeks.
Re: Kentucky lake--this weekend
Thanx for the info--i have been caught on ky lake in the past during a storm--not a good situation to be in !
Re: Kentucky lake--this weekend
Fished the BFL there this past weekend. Plenty of small fish shallow, but the better fish are still 9-12ft deep. fish the creek channels in the bays and you'll catch some better fish.
Re: Kentucky lake--this weekend
If the weather forecast the NWS released this afternoon comes true..you better stay close to the marina. NWS is warning of supercells on Saturday with possible tornadoes. If you do decide to go...for eating fish you might want to think about the Bluegill and Red Ear...reports are hot this week on them....bass are still being taken on staging banks and points but more of the bigger fish started to move shallow today in some of the bays I was in....my weekly report will be up later this evening, check it out.
