Re: stripers in laurel lake
I have wondered this myself. Plus it's close enough to the hatchery to be economical as well. I think they would do well in Laural.
BUT, and here's probably why, the trout they have been stocking in there for years would be gone quickly. If there is one thing a striper likes as much as shad maybe more is trout.
Re: stripers in laurel lake
I think a lot of people here would like to see you beaten for that suggestion... I don't fish Laurel much so it really doesn't affect me either way but I do know that it would completely change the lake. For starters after several years all the trout in Laurel would be gone just like they disappeared from Lake Cumberland. I'm sure it would affect the quality of all the other fish as well.

as much as I like feeling a 15 lb striper, take my top water offering. and make the drag on my reel sing to me. I think, if taking a beating. would get laurel stocked with striper, then I'm all for it. I don't think as many people fish for trout, as do for striper. while fishing laurel at night, I sometimes see 4 or 5 pontoons with a light out trout fishing. but go where the striper are and it's crowded with striper fishermen. everyone has their likes and dislikes, but I always though, thats what trout was for. to feed the smallmouth, walleye, and striper. :)

as old festus from gunsmoke would say, { don't ye see } that would be another reason to stock laurel with striper. they would grow real fast. because laurel is over stocked with trout. and it has millions of shad.:):)
