wind at ky and barkley

this weekend at ky and barkley the winds are forcasted to be at least 10-14 mph out of the south mostly. What do you do. Everybody says wind is your friend. If they forecast 10-14 then when your on the lake it'll be 30 mph. I'm thinking about getting a drift sock. Does anybody else have one.

O.k. so pretty much main lake is out for fishing, you might be able to cross if your careful. So what do you do with a south wind that fast get in east and west bays and hope for the best or stay north barkley. It just seems like you can't get out of it. Or do you just fight and fish in it.

our club tournament was last weekend, winds were out of the south Sat at 15-20 and southwest on Sun 15-25 at least, we put in at Kuttawa and went south just past the 68 bridge, about 30 mi. fished on the LBL side, caught 22 1/4 lbs and won it, going back was tough, but worth it, fish should to be on, wish I was going back, good luck, let us know how you did.

If you fish with a buddy then swap turns fishing or operating the trolling motor. If you fish alone, in a 30mph wind I'd stay away from shallow water or any kind of rock. Regarding the sock; I've used a sock in saltwater and they only work if you don't mind going whatever direction the wind is blowing. They do just fine if you're 20 miles offshore. On a lake they could easily make it impossible for you to avoid obstacles or other boaters while you're drifting. Keep in mind, at Kentucky if the dam operators are pulling water you will have current underwater and the sock will try to go with the current. And good luck getting your boat back on the trailer if you have a 30mph crosswind at the ramp.

If the wind is up from the south or north on Ky/Barkley, most creeks and bays run east and west and there are plenty of ramps to get into some good fishing areas without having to run the main lake. N. Barkley does run east and west and can be a haven from south winds.

10-14 does not mean 30mph winds...but rule of thumb here is add 5 mph to the forecast...of course you should always be careful and err on the side of safety.
