Monroe trip tomorrow (4/30)
Will be starting near paynetown rd. - thinking about going up towards Baxter Branch and then towards Ramp Creek/Sugar-camp hollow/Jacobs hollow.
Any tips? Never been to Monroe before. Looking for Bass, crappie, & bluegill - take some Walleyes if I can catch them too, but not really looking for them. Will be on the water from 8am-7pm.
Thanks and I will tell you guys what worked for me and what didnt. Maybe upload some pics too.
Re: Monroe trip tomorrow (4/30)
From what I've seen and heard on monroe the crappie are spawning and the bass are up shallow ready to. The lake is about 2 ft. high....so fish flooded buckbrush and lay downs. had a friend catch some crappie today on the slowside using minnows. Fishing for crappie and gills around the docks at Paynetown and Fairfax is usually a solid bet, I would check out the back of Allens Creek also. For bass i would stick with soft plastics, crankbaits, and IF its windy spinnerbaits. A tourney I was in there last week was won using lipless cranks around laydowns. Good luck!

Yeah don't count out Paynetown Marina. There are some flooded brush and some laydowns in there. I fish for Bass when i'm in there but, Have caught some nice slabs out of there too.:)
Good luck and keep us updated

We caught 36 crappie. My dad caught 2 bass (1 little small mouth and 1 yellow). I tried crank baits, rattle traps, spinners, and plastic worms...not a bite.
Yeah, right around the marina was the best spot I found for crappie. Caught like 17 of the 36 crappie there about 1/2 hour before we had to return boat.
Good day and hoping to get back down there soon. About a 2 hour drive down there.

Fished ramp creek a week ago. Everything small. It looked like the locals were camped out on a couple of brush piles in the open water.
Caught a couple of nice crappie up in the slow end.

Are you sure it was smallmouth???? Awesome if it was.....but not very many are caught in Monroe at all! Where and what on?
Re: Monroe trip tomorrow (4/30)
Up near Ramp creek - about 1/2 way up that area. It was caught on a live minnow. And yeah, was a small mouth - but was only like 6-7 inches.
Oh yeah, was WINDY in the morning - calmed downed in the afternoon though. Still only fished anywhere outta the wind.
