Bluegill luvin
I have a nice bull bluegill in my 55 gallon tank and last week I placed a longear sunfish and a green sunfish in the tank. The longear is a male and the green a female (guessing by paleish color and big belly). The last two days my big bull (Pueblo Sanchez) has fanned a very impressive nest in the bottom of the tank and is trying to lure the green sunfish in for some luvin. He keeps the nest clean and continues to fan it is great action to watch. I read on the internet they will crossbreed and produce hybrid bluegill. Is this true or is he and I just gettin our hopes up?

Re: Bluegill luvin
They'll hybridize if there isn't another of their kind in the tank. They are from the same genus so the eggs will be fertile. After they spawn take the other two out or the male will kill them. I used to rais pumpkinseeds (longears) in aquariums, to me their color rivals most saltwater fish.
