Barren River Lake FLOODED Goods and bads
I was talking to some of my fishing buddies today about barren river lake being flooded and (by the way if you get a chance to get down and see it it's a sight to see) the Peninsula boat ramp is under water all the way past where u pull over to tie down. And the beach area is so much under water that the walk way down there where people stand and fish the point all you can see is tree tops! Crazy. The new spot where they just made the new boat ramp longer across from ranger bobs and new rec area the new bath rooms they just built were under water. Sad to see, but my buddies and i were talking about is this going to be good or bad for the fish. They think that it is going to help the fish because now they will have a ton more food and will really fattin up and not all of the fish have spawned. I think that that may be true in some light but what about the fish that have spawn their eggs are 20foot under water now. So just kinda weighing out the goods and the bads.

A biologist told me that bass can spawn up to 30 feet deep - but I don't know if clarity has anything to do with that.

That's good to hear! I hope that muddy water doesn't effect them, I know they need sun light too. I bet the fish are loving the grass and trees! Hope the water is down by the time our FLW tournament is there in june! lol

Driving around a little while ago with the big spot light on here in town BG looking at the floods from the barren river, and it is unreal! The crazy thing is its still rising. More roads are blocked off that wasn't blocked off this morning the old Richardsville bridge is block off because the water is over the road on both sides. Down by Scotty's on barren river rd the new houses they just built are under water. Sad sad sad, just unreal!
Re: Barren River Lake FLOODED Goods and bads
In 1997 we were fishing on the golf course and in the parking lots on Barren. At that time the lake was 17 feet and change above summer pool. Me and a buddy for four weekends in a row whacked bass like it was no tomorrow. I'll never forget it, everybody was catching fish. In one day about 9 hours of fishing I had over 50 bass, with 27 being keepers and many of them 3 to 4lb plus. My buddy had about 30 or so with 17 keepers, and he lost a ton. He was doing alot of LDRing that day, lol. Don't know if it will do it again but that lake can be special when it gets real high, I've seen it first hand.

How is the State Park Ramp? Our club will be there next weekend and we have never been there. Can you still launch boats when it is this high? We are coming from the Indianapolis area.

We fished Barren a ton that year. At least once a week. I was bizzare throwing spinnerbaits up in all of that flloded fields and trees and nailing bass like they were going crazy.

You can kiss those spawners' nests goodbye. Barren is at 576.2 this morning and still rising. That is a good 30 feet over where those fish were bedding.

Tim I caught one by a picnic table and another by a flag in a hole on a green on the golf course, lol. I will never forget that year, we were tearing bass a new one.
I hear ya on the spinnerbait to, throw it shallow and make it bump something and hold on.
Re: Barren River Lake FLOODED Goods and bads
I had trouble fishing in it when it got high last. I wasn't fishing for bass though. I was trying for crappie. Limb lining is getting ready to get real good though. trouble will be picking a limb that won't be under water in an hour or two.
Re: Barren River Lake FLOODED Goods and bads
That's sad to hear about the spawn, but most of the guys I have talked to says most of the fish haven't spawned yet on Barren because that lake has a late spawn due to the fish waiting for "Water Stability" meaning they wait for the water to reach the level it will stay at for most of the summer. So maybe not all is lost here.
Re: Barren River Lake FLOODED Goods and bads
Barren state dock is closed and the corps are considering closing the whole lake to recreation till it comes down some
