I would be TOTALLY AND I MEAN TOTALLY AGAINST THIS!
Re: OK........I'm really beginning to HATE this stuff........
Wow I am surprised at their insensitivity to the families of those victims of Sept. 11th, 2001 and to all the people who survived that horrible ordeal, and those people around the area that day including store owners and to all the people of NYC. Do they not see that even the terrorists/extremists go to Mosque's to pray to Allah. They are totally screwed up by Bin Laden and his brain washing and that may draw the extremists down to Ground Zero to gloat over their victory. The good religious muslim people should see this is a slap in the face for all the people who went through 9/11 and is not a good idea at all in my opinion.
Re: OK........I'm really beginning to HATE this stuff........
'Rauf insists the effort is meant to help heal the wounds of 9/11, "We've approached the community because we want this to be an example of how we are cooperating with the members of the community, not only to provide services but also to build a new discourse on how Muslims and non-Muslims can cooperate together to push back against the voices of extremism." '
I'm not buying it. It seems to me that if really were an effort "to help heal the wounds of 9/11," then they would have discussed it beforehand with the local religious and political leaders, and especially the families of the 9/11 victims, and asked, "What do you think of the idea," rather than announcing that they're building a mosque there, and calling it "approaching the community."

The billions that live in peace? This is an ideology. I have an acquaintance who is an M.D. and is Muslim and follows Islam. All Muslims that abide by the Koran think of non Muslims as lower than themselves in the hierarchy of living organisms. Some use violence but some like my acquaintance just choose not to act at the present time.
Re: OK........I'm really beginning to HATE this stuff........
Seems to be somewhat of a disconnect between the title of the thread and what was actually stated in the Fox article that was linked.

100% agreement there.
Then:
...the Billions that live in peace are OK....
Agree with you there too. According to the Fox article, showing that not all muslims agree with the radicals is one of the goals of the building. Seems that they are wanting the same thing as you.
I checked out a couple other stories from other sources on this. Similar stuff in them too. Also note that the Mayor was informed of the plans last fall, and the meeting to reveal the plans was voluntary (they did not need approval). Seems like if they wanted it to be a slap in the face, then they would have done it in private, as they are legally able to do, and then flip us the bird.
Couple of other stories on this in case anyone is interested.

The two groups presented their vision to part of the Community Board of lower Manhattan on Wednesday night.
"They own the land, and their plans don't have any zoning changes," Sheffe said. "They came to us for our opinions and to let us know their plans. It was purely voluntary on their part."
Daisy Khan, executive director of the Muslim society, described her vision of a center led by Muslims, but serving the community as a whole.
"It will have a real community feel, to celebrate the pluralism in the United States, as well as in the Islamic religion," Khan said. "It will also serve as a major platform for amplifying the silent voice of the majority of Muslims who have nothing to do with extremist ideologies. It will counter the extremist momentum."

A presence so close to the World Trade Center, "where a piece of the wreckage fell," said Imam Feisal Abdul Rauf, the cleric leading the project, "sends the opposite statement to what happened on 9/11."
"We want to push back against the extremists," added Imam Feisal, 61.
Although organizers have sought to avoid publicizing their project because they say plans are too preliminary, it has drawn early encouragement from city officials and the surrounding neighborhood.
Mayor Michael R. Bloomberg said through a spokesman that Imam Feisal told him of the project last September at a celebration to observe the end of Ramadan. As for whether Mr. Bloomberg supported it, the spokesman, Andrew Brent, said, "If it’s legal, the building owners have a right to do what they want."
The mayor’s director of the Office of Immigrant Affairs, Fatima Shama, went further. "We as New York Muslims have as much of a commitment to rebuilding New York as anybody," Ms. Shama said. Imam Feisal’s wife, Daisy Khan, serves on an advisory team for the National September 11 Memorial and Museum, and Lynn Rasic, a spokeswoman for the memorial, said, "The idea of a cultural center that strengthens ties between Muslims and people of all faiths and backgrounds is positive."

Personally, I have mixed feelings about the whole deal. Easy to pontificate at some distance from the whole thing. Better to let the people of New York decide the fate of this as they are directly affected by it.

Yeah you're right, better to wait and see how it's received. If it does end up serving to help "push back the terrorists," then I'm all for it, but I'll wait and see. Either way, I'm glad to have been made aware of this, and I'm going to keep an eye out for news stories about it.
Re: OK........I'm really beginning to HATE this stuff........
I wonder what construction companies would take this project on? Who would want their name on being a part of that? Of course money talks....Sounds like a good target to me while it's being built and if it's built....I'm just saying.
Re: OK........I'm really beginning to HATE this stuff........
I would think they would hire a middle eastern muslim contractors living in the States. I really doubt they would give the contract and pay Americans to build one of their sacred mosques. I would think they would say their own people would build a better mosgue. Just my thoughts.
Re: OK........I'm really beginning to HATE this stuff........
If your not a muslim, you're an infidel, they dont really have any moral convictions concerning infidels. If we are stupid enough to swallow that peace loving propoganda, then were in deep doodoo. They slaughtered millions of hindus, the turks killed thosands of coptic christians.THERE ARE NO PEACE LOVING MUSLIMS.
