Kentucky lake

The bass fishing is on like Donkey Kong on Kentucky Lake! We've been having our family reunion "big bass" tournament for 14 years strait; this year has been the best! I had 17 pounds today...5 fish, before noon!!! My brother had two that went over 5lbs each today...he won with a 5.18 largemouth...we also had severial smallies in the 3 and 4pound range. Everyone kept count of how many bass they caught..keepers and nonkeepers...over 300 for 12 participants!! My fish were in the bushes big time today...they wern't yesterday. My brother was ripping a red bandit 300 in shallow water...never heard of this tech., ...but he said it is the same priciple of how some would use a rattle trap in the grass! It worked big time; I was amazed. He had the largest yesterday, 4.96lbs also!! We had 58 keepers to the scales...12 anglers...12 hours of fishing. The water up in the tress and high in the bushes was great; maybe 3 feet above summer pool I think!!

Oh man....you just got even more pumped up than I already was about going down there in two weeks!!! My dad and are fishing the Triton Owners Tx going out of Paris Landing. It should be good fishing and a great experience. Just like last year, the Elite Series guys will be down there getting ready for their Tx....and the ones that have Tritons come help put on a show. G-Man (Swindle) got a kick out of my Sweet Beaver (the bait) T-shirt and I got my pic taken with Zona! Zona is a trip....just like you see on TV! Is the ledge bite going strong yet, or has the high water changed the timing???

I doubt the ledge is going good right now. Base on FLW America Series from Thursday til today the winning bag came from flooded brushes and flooded banks. Not 1 of the top 10 were from ledge. I say it still kinda early.

I saw many "pros" fishing the "creek ledges"...about half way back in the large bays...but they seem to be slow out there. The water was very much stained in most areas...but that didn't hurt the bite any...maybe helped. Johnathan creek looked the best..water looked great there..but the fishing was slow...did catch two keepers there Friday, about half way back...great looking area there to. But the best fishing was the bays over on the LBL side!! The bass are scatered there...some very tight to the bushes...but close to the outside edges...fish the isolated bushed / small tress that are just yards from the row of bushe out front... many all my keepers Sat., were in the isolated bushes...in about 4/5 ft. water;... of course that will change as the water drops. Like I mentioned...my brother was off the bank about 20 yards...throwing the deep running CB,...ripping it. We did catch many large bass that seem to have eggs in them. Ky Lake is just great...thank God for a heck of a fishery

I actually fished the afs this weekend and fish were being caught everywhere. Alot of fish were caught cranking off the rip rap a lil deeper and throwing jigs out off the points. I believe most of the bigger fish have moved out to the first ledge from the bays and are waiting for the water to become stable.

Thanks for the info fellas! I am hoping that the shallow bite will still be on...bushes/points etc.....because when you only fish the lake once or twice a year its hard to compete in tournaments where the ledge bite is the ticket. Can't wait to get down there!

That is what the common scence would say...but that wasn't the case yestersay for sure, or today. Im telling you ...There were many trying that theory Sat., and didn't come in with any positive results, from darn good anglers...Im hear to say...if you ever wanted to flip bushes for large fish...or pull off the bank a bit...where there is grass and weeds...bushes you can't see, in around 5ft / 8ft...this is where the big brutes are right now! Hot off the press, activley feeding and busting top water!! Just got off the phone; Im down here in Hoptown with a buddy that just now got off the lake 40 min ago..said he had two over 5 pounds, and won was 6lb and then some!!!; 12 keepers in all...said it was the best morning on the lake and in the rain that he has had in many many years...and he lives only 15 min from the lake all his life..."big fish ON FIRE"...was his exact words!!! One of his 5lbs brutes was on a horney toad in the very back of Turkey Bay early this moring. Also had good look in sugar bay,,,In the bushes. Im thinking about taking another vacation day...hot action right now...maybe the hottest lake in the south east as I write this!

Man, you guys got me pumped up! My family vacation is this coming weekend. I sure hope this keeps up through then. In general are you all fishing the dam region, middle, or closer to TN? (We are staying at the KY State park).

How is running on the lake, still lots of debris and floaters?

The ledge bite is based on water temps and not calendar dates. "Normally" the ledge bite would be in full swing now but with the water temps being behind schedule and the forecast not heating up in the near future the shad will stay shallower to feed on plankton and the Bass will stay to feed on the shad. Until the shallows warm up enough that the shad can't handle it anymore the shallow bite will stay hot.
