Fishing Slump
So have been out 4 times this year. a week at Kentucky in march, twice to barren before the big rains, and once to Taylorsville with the water in teh timber. I am 0/4 catching anything that even resembles a keeper bass. Is it possible I am simply catching time when everything is lined up condition wise for bad fishing, or am i simply doing everything wrong??? Its starting to get frustrating as I am putting a large amount of effort into improving my fishing but am getting worse at catching...

Re: Fishing Slump
This time of year get a Zoom Lizard or Tube in your color of choice and hit the shore line cover. Have a buzzbait on for early morning and evening or if its windy and cloudy. Put a jig into some deeper shoreline cover and toss a spinner bait or chatterbait around isolated cover. Works for me.:)

Re: Fishing Slump
Couple of thoughts here... 1) SIMPLIFY! Don't get caught up in all the new stuff, baits, gear, etc. Go back to the basics the next time you go fishing. Pack 4 or 5 of your confidence baits and just go fishing. 2) It sounds like you have had tough trips during some tough times. March/April can be tough if the stars don't line up for you. Bass can be tough to catch when conditions are jacked up and air/water temps are fluxuating. When the spawn is over you'll have an easier time catching fish. Hang in there! I've been there too.

Re: Fishing Slump
My advice, keep trying. You can't catch them if your not fishing. If you haven't been out in awhile it's going to take a little time to get on the fish but if you keep trying you'll catch-em. And don't worry, KVD has bad days too.

Re: Fishing Slump
just fish your strengths and dont worry about anything fancy. thats my problem today. i worry about trying new baits and techniques more than actually catching fish. with that said, many of the baits today are just showcase. they dont catch fish as well as the "pros" advertise. its all a money game.

Re: Fishing Slump
There's a huge mental aspect to fishing as well, if you are thinking before you go out that you're not gunna catch anything then you are already defeated. Just simplify things ,relax and throw your confidence baits and let it come natural.

Re: Fishing Slump
If it were called CATCHIN, the lakes would be so crowded you could not make a cast. Keep your head up and keep pluggin away. Nobody catches them all the time.
DJD is right. Texas Rigged Watermelon Red Lizard with a 1/4 or 3/8 ounce wait chartreuse dip and die the tail, cast to the shoreline and hang on.

Re: Fishing Slump
I know the pain, dale has been kicking my butt all through this high water, but I'm stuck on a bait, seems it isn't working where I'm fishing..But I'm getting lazy, start later quit earlier.Waiting for cumberland to clear up a little.

Re: Fishing Slump
Try the tried and true "worm". Put a black 6 inch power worm on with a 1/8 oz tungsten weight and fish. Let it sit on the bottom and drag it as slow as you can. I don't do it enough, but it seems to get that monkey off your back.....;)

Re: Fishing Slump
Agree.....evertime i get in a "slump" with all my fancy new lures and techniques i put on a 6" black/blue fleck power worm and guess what.....catch fish. Maybe not limits but the good ol' worm will get on on the end of my rod most every time.

Re: Fishing Slump
I have been there too. My problem this year is time on the water. But lately i have 2 go to lures that have been paying off under most conditions. Zoom speed craw..speed had nothing to do with it. Compact craw plastic with great action from the claws. Watermelon/red is my favorite color. Also berkley chigger craw {with crazy legs } has great action too. Black/blue and watermelon seed. I think it is the compact design of these plactic craws that is the attraction. Good luck and i hope your fishing improves. And when i have been in your situation i have always been told to slow down--way down and concentrate !

No seriously, that's the exact worm I tie on before every trip because it will catch fish most of the time.
