1996 evinrude intruder 175 fuel system problems
I can't find any leaks anywhere, but when I start to take off again after fishing a spot for could be an hour or maybe less, I have to pump the bulb everytime. Have been doing that for years. This trip however, something different. I went to take off, everthing good for 10-15 seconds, then it was like it ran out of gas or running on 3 cylinders. Stopped re-primed, and had to do it several times before it would take off again. Never a single problem after I got up running good. That was yesterday, today every time I stopped to fish it was hard to get going again, would have to re-prime the bulb several times to get going, then it would be fine idling wot or anything else. Don't want to jump into a 400$ fuel pump if i don't have too.
any ideas suggestions greatly appreciated. as far as the fishing went great two days on ky and barkley. love ledge fishing, just wish I could find the big fish ledge lol

sure sounds pump related to me,or filter
Re: 1996 evinrude intruder 175 fuel system problems
Sounds to me like you got a weak pump,,that motor has 2 fuel pumps,,1 for one side and the other for the other cyl`s,,if you didn`t want to pay a bunch for pumps,,,do what we did when the fuel pump went out on our pontoon,,,pay a Mr Gasket electric fuel pump,,it will pump all the fuel you need for it. Plus when yo uturn the key,,,it will prime your motor for you...

Before you spend too much you might try putting a new primer bulb on it. Sometimes they get old or weak and let the fuel drain back out of them.

Hey, Onemore
I looked at the Mr. Gasket fuel pump. I found one that has 4-7 psi and will pump 35 gph is that what you have. Also, did you leave the fuel pump on the boat or take it off. If you took it off how did you do that.
thanks
Re: 1996 evinrude intruder 175 fuel system problems
I just went out and checked the bulb this morning and it took a 1/4 pump to make it rock hard. I pumped it up last night before I went to bed. That would eliminate leaks from tank to pump wouldn't it.

we ran ours thru the pump..it will flow there it.. I installed it between the bulb and the motor..ran a hot wire from the key so that when you turn the key on it will run the pump,,we`ve had ours this way for 4 yrs now and not 1 bit of trouble,,our pump had gone all the way out...Oh,,,now I don`t know about your oil injection,,our we took off and mix our own gas,,I like mixing my whole due to burning up motors when they when out,,if i put it in the gas,,,I KNOW IT`S GOT OIL! but something to check on...
Re: 1996 evinrude intruder 175 fuel system problems
I already mix my oil, so it should work fine
Re: 1996 evinrude intruder 175 fuel system problems
The electric pump will work great and save a bunch of money. I have switched out 8 of these this year. People blaming ethanol for eating up the diapragms in the pumps. Not hard to do at all . If you have any questions give me a shout.
