Looking to either purchase a kayak or a personal pontoon....any advise would be appreciated!
I have never used either one, so take this for what it is worth.
The personal pontoon would be my choice. It has more easily accessible surface area, allowing you to bring more equipment. Also, the pontoon looks easier to get out of.

I tend to like the pontoon idea as well as I spent so many years sitting and standing on BassBoat decks that even sitting on a jon boat bench is too close to the water for me to operate... so sitting with my butt at or below the water line doesnt sound very appealing to me...
Depends on where you want to use it. I think the overall ability and ease of use makes the toon better. You can use your feet for easy position shifts while on the water or the paddles to move fishing spots. It's more stable but can be cumbersome going through tight spots as it's a little wider with the paddles than the yak.
I think storing your fishing equipment around you is easier on the toon as well.
The yak is a good way to haul butt if you want and it's easier to manuever through small creeks. Storage is fine on the yak but you have to think it through. If I had a toon I would take it to small lakes and ponds and the yak to creeks since I can spin it around the obstacles easier and if the creek is flowing I could have alot of fun running through the riffles.
You have the sit in or the sit on yaks. I have the sit on Wilderness Systems 120 and it has dry storage, rod holders and other goodies. I'll bring the old pic back up on the photo page from when we were at Elkhorn Creek a few years ago. Splitshot fished from his toon and I from the yak the pics show both.
good thing about a kayak there maintance free
I've got a friend that fishes from a pontoon. He fishes elkhorn and other creeks. It's great for small bodies of water but I wouldn't want to have to paddle it 4-5 miles in a lake. From what I've seen the downside of it is that your feet are in the water and installing a fish finder, rod holders, ect can be difficult.
I have a Perception Kingfish kayak, it's 12 feet and holds 350 lbs. My kayak has all the storage space you could want. On a normal trip I take rain gear and extra clothes in a dry bag. A cooler with drinks and food a full tackle bag and 4 rods. I also have a fish finder and 4 rod holders on there. If you are looking for a fishing kayak you want a sit on top. Do a search on here for kayak and you'll get a bunch of suggestions. Also check out kayakbassfishing.com, it's a great site wtih alot of info.
for lazy guys like me... its easier to put a trolling motor on a 'toon...
Get a canoe. It can go anywhere a kayak or pontoon can go, it can hold more gear than either of the two and you can take someone else with you when you want. Heck, with the right design, you can even stand up in one without tipping it.
I've got both. Each has it's own pros and cons depending on the water. Whitewater I love the Toons.....Slow water the Yak....
Wow, alot of good point's....creeker I may just do that.
I found a frameless toon that's made by Sea Eagle. I'll post a link to it below. I've never seen one in action(other than the advertisement video). However, it seems pretty stable with ability to stand and roomy enough for some extra gear. This may be the best of both worlds!!!
