When you guys are summer (or anytime for that matter) fishing with plastics, do you have better luck with "standard" 6-7 inch worms or larger 10 - 12 inch worms? Not looking to get into the brand/color debate, but what conditions do you look at when deciding between the two sizes? Thanks for the help.
Many moons ago my teasher said "glasshoppe, big bait big fish, small bait all fish". We musky fished a class A lake for two days throwing those rail road tie lures, just a follow or two. We decided to go yellow perch fishing, 1/16 oz jigs with twister tails, one 34 inch musky, and several pike bite offs.A lot of guys swear by the 10 inch worms on cumberland, I still prefer the 7 inch ones.But thats me.
Yeah I also don't totally agree with big bait, big fish but I am a 10 inch worm fan. This is why. You can catch a 10 inch bass on a 10 inch worm but when that big one wants a big meal I want to be throwing her a big meal.
Night fishing emergent weed beds on a full moon night 10" black worms texas rigged. Throw them just into the edge of the grass and slowly pull the through and out. Fun to fish that way. The big black colorado blade Stan Sloan spinnerbaits are good for that too. And a black jitterbug are good night time lures.
You can definately weed out the smaller fish with a largert offering. I think you got to listen to the fish. If they're active and eating a big 10" may be the ticket. If the water is stained or dirty you may want a bigger one to displace more water so they can feel it or see it for that matter. If, I'm only after bigger bass and don't want to weed thru the smaller ones I'll take a Bigun'.
I have caught plenty of great Bigun's on 6-7 inches too. If they're not tearing the little ones up, they're not likley going to tear up a 10 incher.
One more little thought... Bass are agressive and like to be Bullys of the water. They may come look at a 6-10incher and never hit it (especially after a full moon) but... You give them a 4 incher that isn't a lot of work to swallow and they may just **** it on down.

I like fishing them bigguns at night!!!
If fish are hitting good or your fishing in low vis water I'd go with the 10's. If more finesse is required or in clear water I'd use the 6-7's. If your fishing somewhere that has a good population of smallies or kentuckys you might consider keeping a few 4-5's in the worm box.
