Johnson Trolling motor help.
There is an older Johnson trolling motor on our 17ft Lowe boat that I know NOTHING about. It is a 12V motor and has a 2-blade prop. I need to know what pound thrust this motor is.
I just got a used minn-kota 24# thrust trolling motor that is in good shape. It is a 12V as well with a 4-blade prop. My question is would I be better with the Johnson or replacing it with the Minn-Kota?
Re: Johnson Trolling motor help.
Do you think a 24lb will pull your 17 foot boat? I have a 17 foot LOWE and wish I had a 70lb thrust on it sometimes. I dont think I would put a 24lb on it, but that is just me. .

I would almost bet the one that is on there now isn't even a 24lb thrust, but I just dont know. It is pretty whimpy-looking, but it pulls the boat around fairly well.

I think that the 12 volt OMC motors were a 41lb thurst

Where did you come up with that info? You are the first person to give me an actual number. Looks like the 24# will stay off the big boat and hopefully find it's way to a jon-boat sometime soon.
