Disabled Vehicles on the Road
A friend and I were going up I-65 and noticed several cars on the side of the road with no one in or around them. My friend said that if you leave your vehicle on the side of the road, you have 24 hours to get a wrecker to pick it or move it yourself. He also said that once the police mark the "abandoned (sp)) vehicle with certain stickers IT IS THEN ILEGAL FOR YOU TO MOVE IT and in can only be moved the the police impoundment tow vehicle. If you move it after they put a sticker on it, the police will take you to court and you will have to pay a fine.
I have never heard this and was wondering if it is true and/or just exactly how long do you have to get a disabled vehicle off the road.

Re: Disabled Vehicles on the Road
In my state the highway patrol makes 3 stops over a period of about a week. Each time he sticks a different colored warning tag on the car. The final tag is red and a tow truck can pick it up but, as far as I know, there is nothing that prohibits the owner from picking up a disabled vehicle that is in his name. The tags are warnings that lets the owner know to remove the vehicle off highway property or it will be towed. All I have seen on the tag is the date the vehicle was checked. I saw it from a distance so there may have been other information that I didn't see.

Grumpy, your friend is mistaken. The sticker tells you how long you have to move it before they tow it. I had a heater control valve go out and had my father in law get me and take me to get the part. By the time I went to Autozone and back they already stickered the Jeep I was driving.
