World Cup Soccer!
The USA wins in the World Cup and advances to the second round. Countless dozens of USA soccer fans are excited! Anybody that can be excited about a three game record that consisted of one win and two ties loses their man card and their right to gripe about the BCS system!

We tied with England. I don't know about France, but they most likely threw up a white flag when they found out Germany was in the tournament! :D

Re: World Cup Soccer!
My son is participating in the Challenger Sports Soccer Camp in Lawrenceburg this week. It is a group of professional European and Brazilian former soccer players that are teaching the kids. They did several activities this week to help pass about 20 minutes a day to give the kids a break during the day. Todays was Fact Thursday and they asked the smaller kids to bring in 5 facts about their country. We decided to do ours about Soccer and found out that the USA last won the first round group in the World Cup in 1930 until yesterday when they did it again. The best USA has ever finished in the World Cup is 3rd place and that was in 1930, THE FIRST WORLD CUP when there was only 7 teams participating not like todays 32. Considering that Soccer in the USA is no where near as popular as other countries, it is a pretty big deal. I always thought Soccer was a sport for the sissy's who could not make the football team and how wrong was I. I see my son and the effort he gives and the bumps he takes and believe it or not, there is a lot of contact that goes on plus all the running. He is 6 playing against 22 other 5-7 yr olds this week from all over Central Ky and for the 4 days, he has gotten a bloody lip, kicked in the thigh - twice, tackled from behind - twice, elbowed in the throat, hit in the back of the head - twice, kicked in the ankle/acheles tendon(sp) 5 times, plus came off the field ringing with sweat from running for 3 hours. This is his 3rd year playing and I never knew the sport was that intense physically. I just thought it was a bunch of running and kicking and there is a lot to it. Landon Donovan, who scored the winning goal yesterday, is a Soccer GOD for LIFE

I love soccer, it is like hockey without the ice.
