Found the source of the smell. UGH
I've been out to my boat barn lately organizing my tackle. I've been catching a whiff of an odor, but couldn't find the source.
It was real strong today and I found the problem.
A tub of chicken liver has been in my live well since last month!! The lid finally popped off from the gas accumulation.
Oh well, that smell will be covered over when Onemorecast56 gets in my boat next week.

Had a friend that left a box of livers in the bottom of his tackle box that was in his car trunk for about a week. He said when he found it that the livers had foamed up, popped the lid on the livers like you said and that there was so much of it that it overflowed the tackle box and was all in the trunk. Said there was maggots every where.
Needless to say he replaced the carpet in the trunk, tried all the usual odor control methods but there was still a stinch. Phew!!!!!
So in the end he hung a strong new air refreshner on the mirror and traded the car in to a car lot that he said didn't bother to open the trunk. :)

Re: Found the source of the smell. UGH
I had a friend of mine get married a few years back in JULY. Extremely hot Saturday and we decided to put a box of Chicken Livers under the seat of his car since we had it from Friday night until the day of the wedding. These things were ripe early Saturday morning when we moved the car to the church and then they sat there for several more hours with the windows up in 90 plus degree heat. Needless to say the bride and groom come running out of the church and get into the car for the traditional drive off and you could tell by the look on both of their faces it was not a pretty sight when they got in. There was a long line of cars behind them to follow so they went on with it just about gagging the whole time. He said they stopped several miles down the road when they could not stand it anymore to get out for fresh air. He could not figure out why it stunk so bad and only after several minutes of looking did he find the container, THAT HAS NOW TURNED OVER, under his seat. He thought it was funny but she DID NOT. The honeymoon started off right, especially since they were driving for 3 hours to get to where they were staying. He ended up calling his dad and borrowing his car for the trip. Said it took a couple of weeks for the smell to go away and only then after several different cleanings as well.

The stench in your boat when Doug gets in there will make you wish for the rotten chicken livers.
