Can anyone identify this guy? Body length is about 1/4 inch. Surface of the Cumberland River was covered with them on July 10th.

looks like an ant, there are some that fly

Probably some type of nymph that recently hatched. Were the trout or other fish eating them?

It is an ant. They are splitting colonies up here now too. I've been seeing a lot of them lately.

I wish the photos was bigger, but it also looks like an ant to me.

Definitely a flying ant....I'm using several flying ant patterns up here in UT right now....trout love them! :D
