Is this a jump?
I'm a relative newbie so please forgive me if this is an ignorant question.
Fishing the Ky River see a kind of a boil and then a splash from a fish rising to the top. Definitely some kind of bass. This will happen several times of the coarse of an hour.
Is this "jumps" or just a single fish feeding topwater?
Any fishing advice?
Should I try to wait till I see one of these and cast a spoon to it? Should I be fishing something topwater after seeing this thinking the fish are feeding topwater.
Thanks!
Thanks!

Re: Is this a jump?
Usually jumps involve a bass hitting the surface more often. We'll see big splashes in a relatively small area every 1-10 seconds while a school of bass is ambushing a school of baitfish. These jumps sometimes don't stay up longer than a minute and other times stay up for as much as 15 minutes. We cast anything that looks like a baitfish, especially an injured baitfish. We've thrown Pop-Rs, shad or white crankbaits, flukes on jigheads, flukes weightless, Kastmaster spoons, etc. Although there's a flurry of feeding going on, the bass will sometimes be pretty selective, like they're keying on bait of a particular size and shape. One time, the fluke on a jighead outperforms all other baits 2-1. Next time, a white, thumping small crankbait is it.
If the fish cool off after a little while, they might get fired back up after another 20 minutes or so nearby, so keep your eyes open.

Re: Is this a jump?
Sounds like either white bass or l/m bass chasing shad but sounds like what i would call a scattered jump. When you see a bunch of bass busting in a area thats what i would call {in the jumps} but sometimes a single bass or a few schooling bass will chase shad to the surface. Either way when you see this throw these baits to that area as soon as you can--spoon,top water popper, fluke, shad rap, little george, white curly tail grub. Try to get to that spot a.s.a.p after you see fish busting the top if not the shad and bass will be on the move. I would have a rod rigged with one of the lures mentioned above and within close reach when this happens. Hope this helps, good luck jc

Also be ready for a long cast you never know where they will bust up.
