I am a kayak river fishing junkie, and have just recently been seeing a lot of the fish I am catching with paracites on their fins.
It looks like a big sore on their fins that you can "pop". Mostly seeing it on bass, but there have been a few rock bass and shell-crackers with it as well.
Anyone know what it is? The two places I have seen it have been the Nolin river and Rough River.
Are there many farms around the area??? I noticed along time ago in small rivers\creeks that the run off of fertilizers and pesticides can have a pretty big impact on the fishery.Just a thought...Chuck
Been seeing fish in stoner creek with red spots all over them. Some spots look as if they have become open sores. I would not eat a fish out of those places!!! Who knows what is causing that....
Might be the otters harassing them? ive seen it to but at the same places i see those otters.
I don't think so in this case. These look like a spotty rash all over. I'll take a pic the next time I catch one. The last two times I have been to Stoner we caught fish like this.

I have caught a few like you described in the hotter months. I think its a parasite like they get with rice breast in ducks, frogs also get it. I cant bring myself to eating those kind either but I think its something brought on by the hotter weather because thats the only time I have seen it.:confused:
Looks like the fish louse drawing is what I seen on those fish. Hard to tell but it was pretty nasty looking.

I caught 1 out of Wilgreen this past weekend that had a blood spot on the tail and one on its side. I have also seen a few out of Stoner with this as well.
Same problem on the Ohio and Harrods Creek
