Well....I about DIED on Ky lake Sunday.
WHAT a bunch of MORONS........
We were fishing a ledge in Smith Bay.....doing pretty good, I must say. About 4 or so, people start leaving because I guess the kegger in the back of the cove was over.
This is when a freaking 50 ft cruiser blasts off about 20-30 knots from the cove. I'm watching this big A boat close on us, and think SURELY he sees us sitting here...........SURELY.
Next thing I know..........theBassMan30 on on the front of the boat jumps up and start screaming at them......YELLING at the top of his lungs.....
Next thing I see is theBassMan30 jumping off my boat because he is SURE the cruiser is going to hit us.....the missed the front of my boat by less than a foot, and **** near sunk my boat.
THE SOB's didn't even flinch......or stop for that matter.
A runabout came over to see if we were OK......luckly, we were. I helped theBassMan30 back into the boat. I asked the runabout to CHASE down the SOB's and get a boat number.
About 30 minutes later the cruiser comes back, and the A-Holes wife says they are sorry....her husband was looking down at the instruments when she SAW as jumping up and down and jerked the wheel to miss us.
THEY are **** lucky I don't carry a gun....cause they'd all be DEAD.
The fact that they didn't EVEN care to stop, even though someone went overboard tells me EXACTLY what kind of scumbag loser that SOB is.......I only wish I would have given them more crap that I did......Personally, I think the only reason they came back is because the runabout caught up to them......
Of course.......they were from OHIO...........gotta LOVE it.
I will prob never fish there again over a holiday weekend. This is the first time I've ever had that type of experience, and I never want it again..........it was REALLY scary.

Geo
Re: Well....I about DIED on Ky lake Sunday.
Glad the both of you are OK! I generally avoid the water on holiday weekends for that very reason. I was on Taylorsville today and it was a total zoo! The lakes are filled with people like the ones you encountered, it is surprising more people are not killed or injured. Thank God you two were not!
Re: Well....I about DIED on Ky lake Sunday.
Glad to hear you escaped the near miss ok Geo. There is a reason I don't guide on holiday weekends anymore...and that ledge you were fishing is a sure place to get run over from the party boats back there on that beach area in Smith Bay for sure.
We were coming off the Purchase Parkway at Draffenville Sunday and had a green light at the end of the ramp where it intersects U.S. 68....as I started to turn right I saw a blurr off to my left and it was a pick up truck doing about 60 and he ran the light at full speed...did not even attempt to slow down....it would have been bad had I not caught that blurr coming from the left....I guess it just was not mine nor your turn to die yesterday.
Re: Well....I about DIED on Ky lake Sunday.
No doubt..........My good buddy..........theBassMan30 was a lot calmer that I was about it.......As soon as he was in the boat, I wanted to chase them down and open up a couple cans..........
Instead, we continued fishing.........just not that ledge :) :)
BTW.....I'm not too sure I was fishing it right, but man oh man.....I caught 8 fish on 8 casts on the rig there......and it was FUN. We tried our luck at ledge fishing, but I REALLY need to come see an expert :) :).
We fished ledges on KY and Barkley pretty much all weekend. We did ok marginal Saturday, Better Sunday and marginal again on Monday.
Funny thing......we started out planning a night fishing trip. We made it down to the lake by 6:00pm on Friday, and fished until 12:00am with only 2 or 3 fish. The bassMan had not made it down to the lake yet....he had been fishing Barren and hammered them Friday, and had planned on meeting us at 12:00am or so. When we met, we decided to fish for a few more hours, and the make a call on changing our plans or continueing night fishing.
Well, we didn't catch another fish in 2 hours, so we went to the hotel, slept for 3 hours and hit the lake again at 6:00am for the morning bite. WE went back to the hotel around 2:00pm for a couple hour nap. After napping, we headed back out at 5:00pm, and fished till Dark.
After Saturday, we got back on schedule and fished Sunday and Monday from Sunup to Sundown.
Later,
Geo

Glad you all are OK. I took a dip a couple years ago because a big cruiser did the same to me.
Geo - If you want some peaceful fishing down here, come down here the weekend gun season opens for deer. It is probably my favorite weekend to be on the lake. You can fish all day and only run into a handful of other boats. Give me a call - we got an extra room here for you.
Re: Well....I about DIED on Ky lake Sunday.
I am glad you guys survived the near miss. I too am getting to the point that I don't care to be on the big lakes on the holiday weekends. The boat traffic is insane and can get down right dangerous. We went to put in the toon Sunday at our local ramp with limited parking and for the first time in 11 years that I have been down there there was absolutely no parking in any way, shape, or form no matter how creative the thinking and we had to go elsewhere. I have found that fishing at first light until late morning isn't too crazy and I used to night fish on the holiday weekends but that doesn't keep you from the crazies either. Definitely not the best time to ledge fish...

Re: Well....I about DIED on Ky lake Sunday.
Been there done that .. We was at rough years ago and this big boat ran right over top of us it knocked kim out of the boat and the prop took her bottoms off it left a very small scuff mark on her hip her husban roby was going to kill the dude but we held him down so he couldnt nevr seen a man so mad in my life.
That is why I do not fish much on the week ends and never on the holidays you folks can have it..
Glad you guys are OK man the next guy he pulls this on may just have a side arm;)
Re: Well....I about DIED on Ky lake Sunday.
I can honestly say that Saturday, KY Lake was as insane as I've ever seen it. I don't usually even get the boat on the water on holiday weekends, but made an exception Saturday. Won't do that again.
Re: Well....I about DIED on Ky lake Sunday.
Geo,
If you got a bow number, even if they came back an apologized, I'd file a complaint against the bow number with the KDFWR. Why? It was reckless operation, and if he did it once, he may do it again. Even if they take no action against the guy now, atleast there will be a record of the complaint against the guy. If it happens again, he'll have a prior.
Glad you dodged the bullet.
Re: Well....I about DIED on Ky lake Sunday.
I take two things into careful consideration when it comes to these holiday weekends. Many of the boaters out on those weekends only boat 1-3 times a year and its usually on those weekends. They may be perfect law abiding people but that still doesn't change the fact that the experience factor simply isn't there. Also, those boats typically have several more people on board than normal, which creates distraction and visibility issues. If I do go, I usually stay off the water. If I do go on the water, I try to limit it to early morning. Never never from mid day on.
For me, the weekend after Memorial day, either weekend around the 4th and the weekend before Labor day make great times to go.
This is just what I consider, and it doesn't mean it's for everyone. But if people haven't considered these things before, ya might wanna.
Re: Well....I about DIED on Ky lake Sunday.
It's a wonder I didn't see you out there. I camped at Smith Bay all weekend and fished the bay pretty good. I saw several fishing that ledge you speak of, maybe even you - seemed like one boat would move off and another would jump right on it. I stayed off the ledges for the simple fact I didn't want to have to deal with waterheads moving in on me, or getting waked by the pleasure boaters. It was more relaxing to chase the shad balls in the area. The topwater bite was on both early and late in the day - the best topwater bite was in the evening with thousands upon thousands of shad all over the place. My wife landed a nice 4-2 largemouth, and we both had several keepers. Nothing like having those fish blowup as fierce as they were! The lake fished more like it does in October this past weekend. Rattletraps and spoons in the shad balls throughout the day were very productive! No monsters, but a great way to get a good limit of 2 to 3 pounders. I even boated a nice 3-11 smallie over by Moors. Was actually trolling along a ledge for sauger and hooked up on that dude. It was awesome!
You have to be on your toes and have a large bag of patience with you for holiday weekends. Some people hate it, but I kind of enjoy it. To me it's just an added challege, and you have to go out there with the right kind of attitude and expectations for such. I had a few run ins with some other fishermen, but they were all out of state and probably didn't know any better, so they get a free pass. Other than that, I thought the weekend traffic seemed a bit mild for a holiday weekend.
