Any Patoka Walleye Stories........

I'm wondering if anyone is targeting them.......and if so.........Are you catching any......

Don't need to know when or where, I can find them, but I've not been down there to fish for them yet.

I haven't fished for them yet, but know a couple locals who do. Haven't talked to them for about 3 months, but they were hot on them this spring. They seem to think that the 'eyes will fare much better than the stripes. Sounds like plenty of good eater size fish, but not many hogs yet. Hopefully, big'uns will start showing up in the next couple years.

i would stay with the bass...since i know you havent even went there once this year...lol

Geo, I will start hitting the lake when it cools off. Just cannot handle 90+ degree heat. Was out there Wednesday and the water temps were still 80+. Was crappie fishing to stock a pond and caught 50+ with most taken at 12 to 18 feet deep.

What was it? like 16 Million Walleye they stalked. DNR say that they have already cut the shad population by up to 60%. Guess that is why the TBF Northern Championship on patoka was terrible this year. [url]http://www.bassfederation.com/story.php?sid=380[/url]
the Final day Allen Boyd caught two fish weighing 4lb 12ounces making his three day total 32lb 11ounces. He says he caught them all shallow. The deep bite has not been the same this year. My guess is the Walleye stocking has hurt the shad population and scattered the bass out. Ohh and why has nobody commented on this page. Because no one cares about WALLEYE unless they are ordering them at Culvers for a sandwich. WE WANT OUR BASS. Please keep all (legal ?) walleye you catch I know I will.
I think DNR made a mistake stocking walleye in a lake that was doing just fine.

I would have to agree.....but don't base your opinion on one tournament alone. Could have just been a tough day/bad weather conditions/funky time around a transition/or many other factors. From what I have seen on tourny results this year, Patoka is a darn good lake for bass. Better than Monroe....at least for numbers. Monroe has some real hog daddies though...which might be because of the walleye and striper introduction???

i think you are totally wrong on everything. there was a fine deep bite this year. actually ,there was a fine everything bite.there are plenty of bass.

Skeeter, the lake was doing just fine, if the DNR catered to only bass fisherman. But since they don't and multi-species can thrive in the same body of water, we now have walleye. Or will have by next spring. Go ahead and keep all you can (legal?), the DNR is going to put several million more fry in and continue to stock the lake.

Hopefully when they decide to stock musky in Patoka, they are able to put enough in there that the people that do not want them will not be able to kill them out like they did northerns. :rolleyes:

Geo, the best I've found are around 18". Keepers and still growing. By spring they should be some pretty good eye's in there.

Just go to huntingburg lake and smack the saugeye there. Unless you are doing it for the fun of catching them. Huntingburg lake for catching eating size fish.
