EPA At it AGAIN!! This time with Ethanol!
I guess I can't mention who is behind this, but I think we all know, I'll let Bassmaster.com handle that. But The EPA is trying to allow for the sale of gasoline with up to 15% ethanol to be sold in the US. Which 10% is already allowed, but I'm sure everyone who owns an outboard knows that ethanol can ruin an outboard engine. SO, lets visit the link below to the read the article and visit the 2nd link to write an e-mail to our..uh...."Leader(s)" to try and put this down. I'm tellin you folks they take a little at a time here and there hoping you won't notice, first its lead now its ethanol...whats next? Stand Up for your rights!

Re: EPA At it AGAIN!! This time with Ethanol!
Thats just stupid too. It is proven ethanol additives actually decrease gas mileage...
Re: EPA At it AGAIN!! This time with Ethanol!
its allready happening have seen some stations selling e85 witch is 85%alcohol 15% gasoline
Re: EPA At it AGAIN!! This time with Ethanol!
Don't panic!!! The big push for E20 fuel is coming from grain producers in the midwest, not a peticular person or government agency. The EPA is reviewing the request to offer E20 fuel and has already delayed a decision for more study.
If the new E20 fuel is approved it will not take the place of E10 or MTBE based fuels (if MTBE is available in your region). The E20 fuel will be clearly labled just as E85 fuel is now.
This issue has been pending for several years and is not originated by any political party, current administration or recent past.
There are however a lot of issues with ethanol based fuels. Particularly with water contamination as water mixes easily with ethanol. Real potential problem with a marine fuel.
Good points of ethanol based fuels is that HP is increased. Chevy flex fuel trucks have higher HP running E85 than running regular gas.
Real delema here. I would rather spend my money in Iowa, Nebraska than Sudia Arabia and Kuwait. However, I do not want my current outboard motor to be obsolete before it is even broken in.
I think I will voice that I think e10 blend needs to be readally available, e20 will have to be clearly labled and hope that we develop some good flex fuel marine engines in the future.
Re: EPA At it AGAIN!! This time with Ethanol!
True HP is increased. I have a Chevy Flex Fuel truck...BUT the Mileage is reduced!
Re: EPA At it AGAIN!! This time with Ethanol!
yea that part *****, but I wish I had got the flex fuel motor. I could use the extra HP towing at times. But I think the closest e85 is Louisville
Re: EPA At it AGAIN!! This time with Ethanol!
Done. I wrote my own nice little letter all by myself. lol
Re: EPA At it AGAIN!! This time with Ethanol!
ITS A CONSPIRACY!!! They know boaters obviously run out and buy only e20 fuel that will ruin their motors thus be disgruntled and easy recruits for Al-Qaeda!!! That EPA is a sly bunch :D
Re: EPA At it AGAIN!! This time with Ethanol!
e85's been out for quite some time...not sure how its hurting anything in a boat though. boat motor and a car motor aint much diferent and cars work fine with it with the right fuel line setup. id say thats all that would need changing

Embrey, up to 10% ethanol is ok for our outboards, but more is not good for them. This is from all of the outboard manufacturers. These motors are not the same as a car. If the only fuel we are able to buy has more than 10%, then we are in big trouble.
Re: EPA At it AGAIN!! This time with Ethanol!
I can just see the owners of STA-BIL smiling from ear to ear now.. oh, by the way if you arent running sta-bil in your outboard already, better not plan on keeping it much longer.. Especially at 15% ethanol, if it does happen.
Re: EPA At it AGAIN!! This time with Ethanol!
I don't care if they allow it, so long as its not MANDATED and well labeled.
My Honda manuals says Ethanol over 10% is a big no-no. Of course, if the EPA would like to buy me a new motor, well alllllrighty then.
