Barren Results from weekend (bass fishing)
Well it wasn't easy fishing on Barren. Pre-fished for two days..then the two day tournament for the weekend. I personaly found our fish in about 10 / 15 feet in brush & stumps. Caught all 15 keepers (large mouths), over 4 days of fishing (10 during the tournament; 5 each day); using jigs; although my partner "Booby Shake" was once again stoking them with his shaky Head deep as well. The wind was just right for us, most of the time, for us to fish light tackle when needed. We needed wind for the fish to bite well?? It was the most time I'd ever spent just throwing the jig; half ounce! I was comfortable with the way I was able to present the jig withing the brush pile, without it getting hung up, and intising a bite on the fall. We did OK in our tournament..maybe 8th out of 30+ boats. But there were a few teams the really wacked them good...They reported that they caught fish in 2ft...too 10ft of water. They had 24 pounds (10 fish) for day one!! That same team had close to 40 pounds; if not over.. for the two day total; there were two other teams that were right there with that weight as well; in the 30'slbs for the weekend total. The fish did seem scatered a bit... did see large mouths schooling busting shad around the mouths of large creeks and on some points main lake points. the shad were up on Sat.; but down a bit on Sunday...Sunday... of course, was the toughest bite, even though it was much much cooler..and partly cloudy. Water temp was 79 most places in the morning..but got around 81 around 3pm each day. There were also reports of bigger quality fish bitting big CB's deep diving...I did lose one fish all weekend...on a 300 bandit; maybe around a 4 pound buser; what got me on that is I did change hooks to the triple grips...but it didn't help...DARN! My buddy fishing that same day (Sat.) for fun; said he lost a 5lbs on a DT 16 blue gill color. We both kept our boats in 20ft for the day...to get the best chances for a keeper. But like I said...there were those catching quality keepers shallow somewhere...they were very tight lipped about that.
