Where to Bank Fish for Youth
A co-worker wants to reward his son for a very good first-quarter report card with a fishing trip somewhere (Lexington area). He doesn't have a boat, so he'll need to fish from the bank and wants catch something he catch and eat with his son. Does anyone have any ideas? I was thinking about the game farm ponds in Frankfort as one idea. Your help is much appreciated by a father and young son.
Re: Where to Bank Fish for Youth
Bank fishing is always more challenging than in a boat. I live in the Louisville area and don't have specific recommendations for the lexington area but have done bank fishing with kids through the years and in general found two angles the most productive. The first is stream fishing. With a little homework you can find good areas with local streams that are bankable or wadeable for some good fishing. Beyond that my next recommendation is private waters. Farm ponds offer some great fishing if you know someone and can get access to such waters...

Take a look at the Kentucky River, plenty access points within 30 minutes or so of Lexington (Frankfort, High Bridge, Boonesboro, etc.)
For something edible I would take the catfish approach. They can be caught on something as simple as a nightcrawler just 6-10 feet from the bankside.
Good luck! ;)
