Last minute advice on CL/CR???
Hey guys-
We will be heading out to stay @ Kendall on Wed.-Sun. We will be fishing the CR and CL. Was looking for any last minute reports from anyone who has fished either one recently....planning on striper fishing early and late on CL, and had heard that a lot of fish have congregated around the mouth of Beaver....are the jumps still happening? Anyone have any luck with the trout on the CR? Thanks for any advice you can give. :)

fished the river all last weekend, fishing was slow in the am, but picked up in the afternoons. I fished a fly rod and got all my takes on yellow egg patterns and prince nymphs. My brother and friend used spinning tackle and took all their trout on powerbait and roostertails, found all our fish in shallow fast water. no current, no trout is what we found. hope this helps.

Thanks for the report! The yellow glow bug is a staple of mine up there during this time of year....they love them! Were you guys fishing the dam? Sounds like the usual for this time of year w/the low flow....find some moving water, and BINGO! Thanks again!
p.s. How was the water clarity?

Re: Last minute advice on CL/CR???
No, we didn't make it up there. I wanted too, but they wanted to do a float so we went from Helms down to Winfrey's. Long day, but we caught fish so I can't complain. I fished Ray Mann Road Saturday morning for a bit but didn't do much, tried Helm's and it was thin, same with Crocus Creek. The place with the most fish seems to be that gravel bar area floating down stream from the dam in between Ray Mann Road and Helm's. We hit that last Tuesday and caught a bunch of fish, all on eggs. I had one break me off and as we floated down I saw him in the water with my egg in the side of his mouth (had to be at least a 6 or 7 pound fish) :( of all the places between the Dam and Winfrey's that gravel bar had the most fish, but it will be packed with fisherman this weekend so if you can get there, get there early and claim your spot. Hope this helps, good luck down there.

oh, forgot, the water stained but not to the point of dirty, you can see a few feet down
Re: Last minute advice on CL/CR???
Striper fishing is rather spuratic right now due to the sudden changes of weather were having here right now. It's been in the 60's mostly all week during the day and this weekend it's supposed in the 40's on sat. and 50's on sun. Stripes fishing has been rather slow to fair here lately because of. I figure the bite will slow down this weekend due to the cold front. But fish are being taken a little of everywhere. There starting to slowly scatter out of the HUGE tight schools and move around everywhere in looser smaller schools. We are picking up fish on 40-60 ft. mud flats and finding some fish scattered out along the points. As always this time of year fish are starting to slide up the creeks also. Hope this helps, good luck and tight lines!

And yes, there are lots of fish in beaver and otter as well right now. One minute they'll be at the split, 10 min.s later they'll be in front of bill long hollow, then over around the honey hole, hell their still moving fast! Jumps fishing is day to day. I haven't seen 'em come up the last few days. But they may come up tomorrow. You never really know about that.

Re: Last minute advice on CL/CR???
Very good info easy5580. Do you think the lake will turn over before Thanksgiving? I'm hoping so.
Re: Last minute advice on CL/CR???
Yeah, I hope so. My opionon (which doesn't amount to much), the last couple a months have been tough striper fishing. Don't get me wrong, there has been plenty of good days fishing, but all in all, September and October I believe definetly are 2 of the toughest months for catchin 'em. But the water is cooling FAST!
