The Economy
If the freshly elected pols follow through on their promises and also manage to get the Bush tax cuts extended, I predict the economy will begin to pick up.
With the senate super majority voted out of existence and the house changing hands major governmental fluctuations and uncertainty should be minimized. This should kick some economic activity into gear.
Mr. Obama's administration can no longer run roughshod over political opposition and ignore this country's citizens. Hopefully the era of ramrodding trillion dollar spending bills through without even reading them is over. Hopefully cap and trade, and the huge push to turn us into a social democracy has been turned back.
It will take years and years to repair the damage this administration has done to America, but yesterday we took the first step. If this year's crop doesn't follow through, we'll throw their asses out too...regardless of party affiliation.
No more Nancy Pelosi! Can I git a Amen!!!

Oh come on, don't you know that now the republicans are in charge of the house everything is going to change :p Meet the new boss...same as the old boss.... Different day, same poop. Give it two years and people will realize the republicans are no better. 2012, Obama gets re-elected and the republicans lose the house again. The cycle starts again....

NOOOOOO! We need "change" :p
On a serious note....What I like about these results is one party isn't running the country again. No matter what happens in 2012 I hope it's two parties with power that way some sort of actual concessions will be made.
I think what happened yesterday screamed people are sick and tired of the Liberal promise just like they were sick and tired of the conservative way when the existing "doofus" got elected. Lets hope for some change we really need it.
I wonder though......did obamy get the hint yesterday?

Yep, mostly agree with you. I'm sure the economy had a role in the outcome of this one too.

Re: The Economy
Pontooner, the Bush tax cuts won't hurt the economy, that's for sure. It is a start that's far better than your party's answers. So far your guys have spent a trillion dollars with the promise unemployment wouldn't go above 8%, and jacked the deficit so far out of control it's not likely to get paid for in our lifetime.
The only answer to improving the economy is to drastically shrink the federal government, cut taxes for EVERYONE, and get the heck out of the way. It's not a difficult concept...most of us get it.
The Liberal Dems have also taken advantage of a tough situation and rushed through an unconstitutional 'healthcare' bill that will eventually be gutted. Bottom line is the government cannot legally force us to buy insurance, and the courts will bear that out.
No, the new crop of Republicans, or the same old ones for that matter can't magically fix our problems, but I think they finally understand that a bloated government, out of control spending, and forced wealth redistribution is the wrong answer.
I disagree that 2012 will be the same old same old. This country is not going to stand by and be turned into a European style nanny state. I haven't heard Mr. Obama's comments on this election, but I've heard he said this vote happened because he hasn't done enough so far. If that's true, and he continues with his current agenda he will be launched in 2012 along with the rest of those standing by him. Goodbye and good riddance.

Re: The Economy
At least some of the Bush tax cuts were going to be extended anyway. It was, and still is, only a question of how many, and which ones. One thing President Obama mentioned in his comments today was that even as hard as it may be to get things done the next two years, given the different majorities in the House and Senate, the two parties have GOT to be able to at least work together on getting those extended, since their expiration date is fast approaching.
2012 will absolutely be more of the same, by which I mean more of the usual switch from one party to another. Obama probably will be a one term president, just like most of them. Then in 2016, or at the latest 2020, the Democrats will get voted back in. That pendulum just keeps swinging inexorably back and forth.

Re: The Economy
You know, while I am certainly in the camp for smaller government, I also tend to think that the policies and practices of the government don't make quite the "daylight or dark" difference in the economy that many people ring bells about.
You know who could have the MOST impact on the economy in the shortest time frame? THE PEOPLE...more specifically, the middle class. Politicians don't cause so many Americans to have a since of entitlement towards things that they can't afford based on their income level. Politicians didn't make people with $35K or $40K a year jobs go out and try to buy $300K houses...they didn't make lenders give them loans that they knew they couldn't afford and would eventually default on if the market slowed. They didn't make them go out and buy $50K gas-guzzling cars financed for 72, 75, or 84 months so they could barely afford the payment...only to be in a world of hurt when gas shot up or some other financial situation in their lives changed. They didn't make them go out and rack up thousands upon thousands in credit card debt buying stuff that they couldn't afford.
A generation of Americans came to be that wasn't very fiscally sound and didn't understand the REAL value of a dollar. I tend to believe that this economy had been gorging on the unhealthy, negligent, and common sense lacking habits of consumers for years....and it finally belched to try to right itself. As much as I think politicians are general blow-bags, is that really their fault?
I don't claim to have the answers on how to fix it, but sometimes I think the "easy" thing to do is to bitch about the politicians, the government, and how it's all their fault. The government has an impact, don't get me wrong, but I think it's time that the American public mans up and owns some of the blame too. We brought many of the economic downfalls on ourselves with unrealistic ideas on the "wealth" that we have and what we can afford. It all snowballed.
Just because I'm a middle class Joe with a decent job and a little cash in the bank, it doesn't mean that I should be able to go finance a huge house, a couple of expensive cars, a boat, a motorcycle, a flat screen TV in every room with cable and all the channels, clothe my family from the high-end stores at the mall, and go out several times a week to all the hopping eating joints at $50 a ticket....all on my credit card. If you think there aren't people out there doing just that every day, you're fooling yourself. That's not the way the world is supposed to work, but American culture has deemed it "normal" and carried on.
There are a hundred different factors that have contributed over the years to our economic state....please don't think I'm saying that this is the only one....but I feel like it may be just as big a factor as the government and politicians that we all cry about. Until Americans act smarter with their money, whether they have a little, a lot, or somewhere in-between, all the government can do is print more money and pass it out like sandwiches at a Sunday School picnic to try and feed our habits until the value of the dollar goes off the charts in the wrong direction. We're all a little guilty. If everyone budgeted and bought what they could realistically afford based on their income level and accumulation of real wealth, it wouldn't be near as turbulent out there. Don't say it can't be done, because I know several who are quite good at it...
I'm Splitshot, and I approve this message. LOL

You didn't explain how extending the Bush tax cuts would help the economy since they have failed to for years and then you complain about the deficit but want the tax cuts extended.
The only answer to improving the economy is to drastically shrink the federal government, cut taxes for EVERYONE, and get the heck out of the way. It's not a difficult concept...most of us get it.
Deregulation is a major reason the economy is in the toilet right now and again the Bush tax cuts have failed to help the economy and taken billions in revenue away from reducing the deficit.
The Liberal Dems have also taken advantage of a tough situation and rushed through an unconstitutional 'healthcare' bill that will eventually be gutted. Bottom line is the government cannot legally force us to buy insurance, and the courts will bear that out.
You are required by law to have auto insurance aren't you.

Funny because every poll I saw had the economy as the number 1 issue by a large margin, not that I approve of all you listed but if the economy was doing good I think you know how things would have turned out.
