Re: Cumberland this weekend
As of last weekend the shad had still not moved to the head of the creeks yet. I tried fishing the head of the creeks sat morning with no luck. I moved to the main lake, river channel banks on sunday and I caught probably 25 fish with 4 keepers (1 SM, 1LM, 2KY) all of these came from shady river channel banks. The water temp is still in the upper 60's. It was 68 Sunday. If it drops at its normal 2 degree per week mark, then it will be around 65-66 this weekend. Still to warm for the shad to move into the head of the creeks, in my opinion. The bite is picking up, but its still not really good like it gets when the water is in the low to mid 50's
Best of Luck
Re: Cumberland this weekend
I catch bait generally 2-4 times a week. There are lots of large schools of alewives (mostly smaller baitfish) on the main lake and there are HUGE schools of bait in all the creeks. Bait is everywhere! I am catching 6-12 in. gizzards up in any of the creeks in 1-3 feet of water on muddy flats and shallow channel ledges. Needless to say theres plenty of bait in the creeks right now, but, the stripes are not up there yet. Were are still fishing the main lake most of the time.
