Home Owner's Insurance Increase
I just received my bill for next year's home owner's insurance. I darn near fell out of my chair. It is a 22.52% INCREASE over last year's amount.:eek: And that is with $1000.00 deductible.
I have all insurance with the same company. Home, 2 trucks, Umbrella, and boat. I think it's time for me to shop around.
If there are any insurance agents here, shoot me a PM and we may well make a deal.
Re: Home Owner's Insurance Increase
Oh, and I can't wait to see what my self-payed health insurance is going up to next year.
Re: Home Owner's Insurance Increase
I have self pay in my daughters with a high deduct and when she jumped into another age bracket of theirs it went up like $30 a month so I went even higher on the deduct.
Of course even though we hardly use it we were having to pay their adjustment of kids that age who have used it alot. It's a tough hit for some folks.
Some people are paying $700 or more for their family plan. That is out of control.
Re: Home Owner's Insurance Increase
In my opinion it's kind of ironic that insurance of any kind is one of the biggest rip off's going, and the government wants their hands in it? Hmmmmm....
This is my .02 about insurance.
Re: Home Owner's Insurance Increase
Tyme,
You might want to try KY Farm Bureau. Here's a breakout by year, and percent increase/decrease inpremium, with no policy changes. Note 08 was a low cost year, but I think the insurance companies are still making up for the ice storm of 2009.
APR05 APR06 APR07 APR08 APR09 APR10
base year 5% 6% -7% 10% 13%
FYI if it helps any.
Re: Home Owner's Insurance Increase
Stupid question. I live in Indiana. Does Ky Farm Bureau cover Indiana?
Re: Home Owner's Insurance Increase

I agree. I try to carry the bare minumum of insurance for all things as it is an extremely big scam. I NEVER get extended warranties or other sorts of things like that either.
After all, I could have been putting all those premiums I've been paying over the years into savings and would have been able to pay most things that insurance covers out of pocket.
Re: Home Owner's Insurance Increase
Just took a good hard look at going from State Auto to Ky Farm Bureau. I asked around and got several stories about how they treat you if you do have a claim. Decided to stay where I was. Near as I could tell KFB may be a little cheaper, but filing a claim was akin to dealing with the government. You have to fight with telephone wielding bureaucrats about every little thing.
Also, I once had a Farm Bureau auto policy holder rear end me, and they just plain refused to make everything right. I wound up forking $260 out of my own pocket to get it back where it was before their guy ran into me. Certainly not enough to hassle with a lawsuit, and they knew it.
Re: Home Owner's Insurance Increase
I just had a long discussion with my agent. He's a nice enough guy, but he's still a salesman.
I told him I thought my property was over valued. I know inflation creep has increased replacement costs, but I don't think I should have my dwelling and personal property valued at $364,000.00. He agreed.
He will return my call soon with an updated quote.

You might want to try The Hartford. I have my car and home insurance with this company for ages now and they stick well by claims.
