It has been some years since i last fished there but you can fish behind the hydro plant @ Mcalpine , you have to go across the lock dam and park in the parking lot walk down to the river from there and fish behind the hydro plant ... WHAT EVER you do do not wade in the water at all back there or you will die.
We used to use 1/2 once or bigger led head jigs with white curly tail grubs 3" or longer and a minnow..
It is also a good place to catch cats sauger walley sugeye drum and just about any thing else that swims..
Tight lines man and be safe out there..

There are several dams/hydros on the Ohio that have both hybrids and stripers. Bottom bouncing a lead head with a sassy shad or twister tail grub can be very effective. Topwater plugs can be good some days. I also use slab spoons (Do it mold casting spoons) in various sizes (1/2 to 3 oz). Larger ones for when they are farther out, smaller ones for when smaller bait is around.

Very good advice APB. One thing you have to consider is your fellow fisherman. I don't fish dams from shore anymore. Been there done that and I decided it wasn't worth it. There is some kind of hierarchy that is set up by the locals. If you like fishing elbow to elbow and having guys cast over your shoulder and tangling your lines, than this is for you. The locals will probably give you the cold shoulder, evil eye and anything else to let you know where your place is. I would rather fish other areas that are less productive just so I can have an enjoyable experience. Thats just me though.
