Terrance Jones.. How good is this kid?
So this kid is the 9th best player coming out of high school last year? I know Brandon Knight was rated ahead of him and maybe in high school he was but Terrance is unbelievable. First couple of minutes of the UConn game tonight and he takes the ball at the top of the key, drives by his man like he is as fat and slow as I am then Two Hand Dunks betwenn 2 or 3 UConn players, you will see it again on ESPN Top 10 Plays of the Day. Very next trip down court and he takes the pass about 22 feet from the basket to rise and stroke a beautiful left handed 3 that touches nothing but the bottom of the net. Next trip down gets the offensive rebound and back up with the hoop and the harm then caps off the 3 the old fashion way. Somewhere around 6'8 or 6'9 and brought the ball up the court like a point guard last night a couple of times. Who guards this kid, big tall player and he goes by them, shorter player and he strokes the jumper. Man what a talent and from what I have seen this year I would love to be his agent more than any other player in college ball right now.

He is very good!! I just hope Cal can keep him around a couple years.
Re: Terrance Jones.. How good is this kid?
He should make Cat fans quit worry about Kanter. Jones looks like the real deal.

I would say the only chance he stays after this year is the NBA Lockout. My guess him and Brandon Knight are both gone unless the lockout happens.
Looks like Kanter is going to be missed immensely. If this team had a solid inside presence they could be really good even better than last years team. They sure have taken this "Dribble Drive Offense" to heart. Knight was recruited and all reports was he is an outstanding shooter and has "Dribble Driveitis". Deandre Liggins has "Dribble Driveitis". Between the two of them they hit the BOTTOM of the rim on their drives a bunch of times in the Washington and UConn games. They got too far in out of control and just threw them up at the rim. Sort of a double edges sword with Harrelson for we MUST have his rebounding but could really use his outside 3 point shot to drag the other teams big fella outside to clear out the lane. Darius Miller has what I think is the best drive and then pull up jumper from 10-15 feet of anyone that I have seen at UK in a very long time if not ever. I would love to see his shooting percentages on this kind of shot and my guess is it would be 70% or better for the last 2 years. For this team, we HAVE to stroke the 3 pointer to keep the defense out on us and honest for when we decide to Dribble Drive. Otherwise, they sag off when we are not making the outside shot which hurts us even more. Would have loved to seen Patterson on this team and with him in the D League he might be wishing he was here as well. Looks like every year will be like last year, first 15 games of the year and a bunch of talented players trying to figure it all out, next 15 games trying to win the SEC and then the last 6 going as far as they can go. Lose players to the NBA, provided no Lockout, reload and do it all over again in 2011.
Re: Terrance Jones.. How good is this kid?
Jones is the real package for sure but don't kid yourself he's one and done. Scouts are on him like a Mallard duck on a junebug. After this year say Bye Bye to Jones and more than likely Knight as well.
This brings up an interesting subject. Can Cheatapari when a title with freshmen every year??? Sorry bout the Cheatapari thing, just funning around. I say no, but if he can keep a nucleas of role players long enough it could happen.

I totally agree that Jones is one and done but only if there is not a NBA Lockout. If there is a lockout then the way I understand it, there will still be a draft but there will not be any contracts offered and draftees will be allowed to play in the D League but again not for any big money. This makes College look a lot better than the D League or they could play overseas. In all likelyhood, Knight is one and done but the little kicker here is he likes being a Student and is a pretty good student at that. Nothing like Orton and Bledsoe that did as little as possible to throw their names in the draft last year.
Lets say there is a lockout and with the #1 Class coming in next year imaging this team
Backcourt - Brandon Knight and Marquis Teague
Frontcourt - Jones, Anthony Davis and Mike Gilchrist
Pretty good team of Sophomores and Freshmen right there. Miller, Liggins, Lamb, Vargas all with another year under their belt. Not to mention if Cheatapari gets Kanter ok'd thru an appeal. Pretty scary.
Speaking of Kanter, the NCAA is questioning $33,000 in improper benefits from 2 years ago and the kid turned down a $1.2 Million bonus that the entire team received this spring for winning the championship in order for him to keep his eligibility. Something does not seem right in that equation.

Jones is gone, no doubt. Knight probably is too, but what if he stays? With Davis, Gilchrist, Teage, and Witjer coming in for 2011-2012 season...were Knight to hang around another year...could be quite impressive having Teague on the floor at point with an experienced Knight who has grown up a little and moved over to the 2. Probably a pipe-dream, but nonetheless...
What ends up happening if there is an NBA lockout as predicted?
IF a college team of freshmen can win a national championship, there is no doubt in my mind that it will be one of Cal's teams given the recruiting....but I think it may have to be one of those deals where the planets just align with a special special group. Last year was as excellent an opportunity as any. Next year, if the players incoming are as advertised, could be similar.
The bottom line is that it's dang hard to win a championship, even with sophomores, juniors, and seniors. Tough challenge with freshmen. I don't believe that it CAN'T be done...so I'm hopeful...but even the Fab 5 didn't do it.
Oh yeah, and if a team can't make more free throws than they miss, expecting them to make it through March with some hardware is like expecting me to sit down in front of some chocolate cake and not eat any. Aint gonna happen!
Re: Terrance Jones.. How good is this kid?
Good stuff Woody and Brian, if the lockout occurs it may play a huge roll. I do think Knight likes school and that and chasing Co-eds may be enough to keep him around for two years. Seems like a likeable kid to, I wish him well. I do however hope Teague is a huge failure. That's sounds rough I guess but even if you hate Pitino the way that boy did Rick was just wrong wrong wrong. Talk about leaving a guy at the alter, Geeze....
Re: Terrance Jones.. How good is this kid?
I think last year was about as good a shot in today's game as a bunch of Freshmen will get at the title in Kentucky. They had Patterson who had experience and took a backseat and that is a major component that most teams full of talented freshmen don't have. Bledsoe and Miller went from could not miss a 3 to could not throw it in the ocean from the beach against WVU. WVU shoots lights out from the 3 point line and plays the game of their lives and still UK had a shot in the final couple of minutes. I don't think that Knight and Jones will score a bigger percentage of the points this year as Wall, Cousins and Bledsoe did last year. Face it Hood was a non-factor and Orton was a defensive and rebounding presence at best. Lamb and Poole need to really step up this year to add to Knight and Jones for this class to be compared to last years class. I think Wall is better than Knight, I would take Jones over Cousins because of his rebounding, ball handling, outside shot and free throw shooting but if they played 2 on 2 I think Wall and Cousins would beat Knight and Jones but not by much.
