I was wondering what type of hair to use on jigs for bass fishing and how hard is it to tie your own hair jigs. I know where to go to get the hair and stuff just wanted to know what type hair you guys like and how hard is it to do.
Thanks
Chuck

For smallmouth hair jigs I have had success with rabbit hair in thin strips both white and black color. For Jig/pig types I have had success using a combination of brown bucktail, craft hair and rabbit. I like the jig/pig hair jig because of its small profile and I use a tiny paca trailer. For Floatnfly jigs I tie either craft hair or duck feather.
hope this helps. It will take a couple of tries but its not too hard to do.
For what it is worth, I do not tie jigs but my brother in law does, he used bear, deer, squirl hair the bid thing is finding a jig head with the right hook. Venon used to make a good sharp hook, thinking of tieing them myself to pass away the time he said it is easy. He also test the jigs and heads in fish tank to see how the hair acts and the head acts.

Use mostly bucktail but tie a few with deer belly hair and squirrel tail.Would use some feathers and rabbit hair if I happened to run across some.Use some synthetic hair for color a little.

If you haven't tried it, give Marabou a try. Bery life-like and looks like it pulsates in current.
Thanks for the info guys...
hard to beat a Cumberland Pro jig unless you just want to tie your own.
