I don't think the citica's are bad reels - but they don't compare to a curado (new or old). I still think the older green curado "B's" are as good as any of the curado's. I don't think the newer versions got any better, just different designs. The newer E curado's are great. If you want one just for cranking - I would go with the E5 (5:1).
Here are the differences:
Different gear sets -- Curado only offers a 7:1 and 5:1 gear ratio in the E series.
Curados have a higher bearing count.
Color schemes are different.
Other than that, they are built on the same frame, new and old. The differences in prices are due to components and the number of bearings in each reel. More info is available at:

What Col Forbin said. I had a Citica once I got on a combo deal from Basspro. Never did like it. Sold it a month later.

I need to correct something.....the Curado 50E offers a 6:1 gear ratio, but will sacrifice line capacity.
If you're set on a crankin' reel, go with the Curado 200E5 with the 5:1 gear ratio -- you won't be disappointed.;)
I have the new Citica D and it is as good as the old Curados I have. I have some old Citicas and the new Citica D are ten times better than the old ones. I would Buy another one in a heart beat.
I have 6 Citica's and I like them all. The 3 I bought in 2008 do have a smaller spool than the 3 I bought in 2010. The 2010 Citica frame is the same as my 2008 Citica's but the spool is much larger and the side plate to adjust the brakes is made different. I have never owned a Curado so for me to give a full comparision of the 2 would be unfair.
However my friend does have a Curado and I have fished with it for a couple of hours. What little I used the Curado I could not see the difference to warrant paying extra money for the Curado. I am sure the Curado is a fine reel but I willl stick with my Citica's. I like the Citica so good that I plan on buying 6 more that way I will have a dozen...lol
The only downside to the Citica for crankin' is that it doesn't appear they make a 5:1 model. I think I'd find the extra $$$ and go with the 5:1 Curado. JMO.
Guys I am telling you the crestfire is as good as the citica and only 49 dollars. I use them for cranking and on ALL my rods.
$150 shipped to your door!
