Anyone done it? Done it in KY? Seems awesome. Think this is going to be my new obsession. I have heard good things about the Licking, the KY and its forks, the Red, etc... I'm definitely partial to cold water, for some reason lake fishing dosen't really excite me.
Anyway what's up with the musky?
Add Green River and Rough River and I think excluding the lakes that is about as good as you're going to get. Asked some similar questions not long ago and the concensus seems to be it is very difficult but if you can hook up it is well worth it. Can tell you if you want to wade, the Licking around Falmouth (there are several good turns near and a huge S in Falmouth) and the Red River offer great wading opportunities. If you can't grab any muskie's you can at least nab some nice smallies. Not sure where you're located but D1ck at Forward Cast in Louisville has a nice muskie landed on a fly on the wall in his shop, maybe stop by and talk him up if it's convenient.
I have never tried for musky on the fly...but I have landed several pike on the fly. BIG streamers are the ticket...I would focus your attention on well known musky waters such as Green River/Lake, Cave Run, and Barren River. Be prepared for a lot of casting, and a soar shoulder by the time you are done! :D

I caught one years ago on an 8 weight fishing below a dam on the Ohio,Dahlburg diver-brilliant yellow,lead core line.
Lakes like cave run should be a top place to try.
I have always wanted to try them, I have caught them on standard baitcasting equipment and it was a blast, would love to tangle with one on the FR sometime.
I bought a new 8wt with stripers and toothy fish in mind this fall. Still haven't made an oppurtunity to get out though. That must be fixed!
