Making jigs
Knowing this cold weather is staying around, cabin fever has set in. If I can't go fishing, the next best thing will be to make some baits.
Brought a melting pot and "Do-It Molds" for making jigs and could really use some advice, tips, best practices. This is the first time and I'm sure there's much to learn.
Appreciate the help and expertise!

Re: Making jigs
make a couple of pours without hooks or weedguards to get the mold warm. Otherwise the lead will cool too quick and leave voids. use vegetable oil on the hinge if it starts to get tight. Let the mold cool a little between pours or it will get too hot.You will get the feel for how fast to pour each set of jigs to get the best results. Have fun. Make sure the room your in is well ventilated. Molten lead puts off vapors that are real unhealthy.

Re: Making jigs
I prefer to leave the weed guards out while pouring, insert the peg. So the weed guard hole is their. glue it in after jig is powder coated and baked. I also tap the mold on the table after i pour to help the lead settle into the mold. Its all a timing thing you'll learn.

Re: Making jigs
Keep a table spoon handy to clean the slag or dirt off your lead after its melted if you use wheel weights its the worst for being dirty, the dirt will skim offf the top easily

Where in Northern Ky are you located. I also live in Northern Ky. and pour sinkers and Jigs. Where did you get your lead from. If you live close I could loan you some molds to pour sinkers.
